Just because a wipe says “flushable” doesn’t mean it’s septic-friendly. Unlike toilet paper, wipes don’t break down quickly and can clog pipes, pumps, filters, and septic systems.

The only things that should go down your toilet are:
Human waste 💩
Toilet paper 🧻

Everything else belongs in the trash 🗑️ ‼️

We’re pleased to welcome our former summer intern Matthew Holbrook, to the CWC team in a new full-time role!

Throughout his internship, he impressed us with his enthusiasm, strong work ethic and wide-ranging interest in supporting our watershed communities, so when the opportunity arose, we were happy to keep him on board.

As part of our Operational Excellence team, he’ll contribute to critical mapping, technology and community vitality initiatives, while also supporting CWC’s workforce development and public education programs.

And if you’ve been following us for a while, you’ve already seen some of his work: he created our 2025 Year in Review video!

We’re excited to see what he’ll accomplish next as a welcome part of the CWC team.

Sunday Smiles: A Delaware County Fair Flashback!

It’s been a little over a week, but we’re still smiling about our time at the Delaware County Fair!

Our favorite part was meeting so many of our neighbors—especially the young adventurers who stopped by to score some new CWC merch and pick up our new Watershed Activity Book.

Although, according to some of our staff, the funnel cakes came in a very strong second.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello! Fair week may be behind us, but we’ll be out and about across the watershed over the next couple of months. We hope to see you out there!

While Tropical Storm Irene had a devastating impact on our region, it also galvanized CWC into action.

In the days, months, and years following the devastating flood, the Catskill Watershed Corporation (CWC) worked side by side with local communities, businesses, and regional partners to support recovery efforts, remove hazardous flood debris, and develop long-term strategies to reduce future flood impacts.

In the immediate aftermath of the storm, CWC provided loan relief to existing borrowers and provided for $5 million in business recovery grants to help local businesses rebuild and recover. Those efforts continued well beyond the initial response, as CWC invested in and implemented numerous flood mitigation projects throughout the region.

Today, CWC continues its commitment to watershed communities through the Flood Hazard Mitigation and Implementation Program, which includes more than $30 million in funding and technical resources to help communities reduce flood risks and improve resiliency. As we continue to strengthen the resiliency of the West of Hudson Watershed, CWC is reviewing the reopening of the Emergency Stream Debris Removal Program following the July 28-30 storm, reinforcing our commitment to helping communities recover, rebuild, and prepare for future challenges. The proposal would allow eligible projects in Ashland, Halcott, Hunter, Jewett, Lexington, Prattsville, Windham, and Shandaken to seek up to $10,000 per application for flood debris removal critical to infrastructure, health or safety.
