Jackson County has a seat at the table!

Jackson County TDC Executive Director Kelsi Jackson has been selected to serve on VISIT FLORIDA’s FY 2026-27 Industry Services Committee!

Why does that matter for us?

As VISIT FLORIDA develops its next strategic plan, Kelsi will have an opportunity to bring the perspective of Jackson County and rural Northwest Florida into the conversation, helping ensure that Florida tourism includes not only our well-known beaches and larger destinations, but also the rural communities and unique experiences found right here at home.

Kelsi works alongside TDC Program Manager Chastity Sheffield and Events Coordinator Jourdan Wesley to promote Jackson County and all that makes our corner of Florida worth discovering. As she continues in her role as TDC Executive Director, her service on the statewide committee will build on that work, bringing Jackson County’s experience to a larger stage while also creating opportunities to bring new ideas, connections and industry insight back home.

As Kelsi shared, “I am excited for the opportunity to bring rural Florida’s voice to the table as Visit Florida develops its next strategic plan.”

📍 NEED AN ADDRESS FOR YOUR PROPERTY? START HERE!

Building or setting up a new home in unincorporated Jackson County? There is a process for obtaining your new 911 address: and your first stop should be Jackson County Community Development, not the E911 office.

Here’s how the process works:
• Start with Community Development. Submit a Residential Development Order (RDO) application to the Planning Division for review.
• Receive development approval. Once your RDO is approved, Community Development shares that approval with the appropriate departments, including E911, so your address and other necessary permits can move forward.
• Your E911 address is then assigned as part of the development process. From there, you can continue with the applicable septic/well, construction and other permitting requirements.

🏡 What about vacant land? Vacant property generally cannot be assigned an address simply upon request. However, owners who need vacant agricultural land addressed may apply by completing an E-911 Address Form through Community Development.

Following the correct process helps keep your development approval, address and permits coordinated — and can save you an extra trip!

🏛️ Board Meeting Recap | August 25, 2026

Here’s a snapshot of key items voted on at the latest BOCC meeting. Read the full press release here 👇

• Blue Springs Sewer Project: L & K Contractors reported that previously identified leaks have been addressed and work continues toward final completion of Phase 1. Anderson Columbia is expected to begin paving next week as remaining roadway improvements move forward.

• Upcoming Public Hearings: The Board set September 8 at 6 p.m. for public hearings on a proposed modification to the Graceville Correctional Facility and a proposed 77.5-acre expansion of the Anderson Columbia Borrow Pit on Pittman Hill Road.

• Hog & Beaver Removal: The County renewed its partnership with USDA Wildlife Services to manage nuisance beaver and feral swine that can damage County roads, drainage systems and other infrastructure.

• Emergency Food Services: The Board moved forward with establishing a pool of food service vendors that can be activated during disasters to provide meals for emergency response personnel. Keith Maddox, Tim Perry and Commissioner Donnie Branch were appointed to evaluate proposals.

• Special Magistrate: The Board approved a five-year contract with John McDaniel to continue serving as Special Magistrate for County code enforcement matters.

• Indian Springs Sewer: Commissioners approved the purchase of property on Magnolia Blossom Lane for a future lift station serving the Indian Springs area. The property remains eligible for grant funding.

• Jail Improvements: The Board approved closeout documents for the Correctional Facility Roof & HVAC Replacement Project, with no increase to the project’s contract amount.

• Property & Liability Insurance: Following additional review, the Board voted 3-2 to remain with FMIT/FACT for County property, liability and risk insurance. Chairman Jamey Westbrook and Commissioner Donnie Branch voted in opposition.

Let's rally around one of our local heroes at Jackson County Fire Rescue!

🚒 SUPPORTING ONE OF OUR OWN

Firefighter/Paramedic Chase Maddox and his family are navigating a serious medical situation that has changed their lives in ways no family can fully prepare for. As Chase focuses on his health and the road ahead, his family is also facing the financial burden that can come with an unexpected medical crisis. Right now, Chase and his family need help from the community he has dedicated himself to serving.

Chase has dedicated himself to a profession built around showing up for others on some of the hardest days of their lives. Right now, we have an opportunity to show up for him.

Jackson County Firefighters IAFF Local has organized a GoFundMe to provide direct financial assistance to Chase and his family as they navigate the road ahead. Every donation, no matter the amount, can help ease some of that burden. And if you aren't able to give, sharing the fundraiser can help it reach someone who can.

🐶 IT’S NATIONAL DOG DAY!

Today is dedicated to the four-legged members of the family. Here's to the ones who greet you like you’ve been gone for three years when you only walked to the mailbox, take up 80% of the bed despite weighing 20 pounds, and somehow know the exact sound of the treat bag opening.

Jackson County, we want to see your dogs! Drop a photo of your furry best friend in the comments!

And while we have all the dog people gathered in one place, here’s a reminder about Jackson County’s Spay & Neuter Voucher Program.

🐾 Jackson County residents may receive vouchers worth $40 toward the cost of spaying or neutering a dog OR cat.

🐾 Up to two vouchers per household per fiscal year are available.

🐾 Pet owners are required to schedule an appointment with a provider prior to the voucher being issued. Vouchers MUST be used within 30 days of issuance.

🪪Must provide proof of residency in Jackson County in addition to a copy of your photo ID.

We currently have a very limited number of vouchers remaining for this fiscal year, but good news: a new allocation will become available when our new fiscal year begins in October!
