🚒 SUPPORTING ONE OF OUR OWN

Firefighter/Paramedic Chase Maddox and his family are navigating a serious medical situation that has changed their lives in ways no family can fully prepare for. As Chase focuses on his health and the road ahead, his family is also facing the financial burden that can come with an unexpected medical crisis. Right now, Chase and his family need help from the community he has dedicated himself to serving.

Chase has dedicated himself to a profession built around showing up for others on some of the hardest days of their lives. Right now, we have an opportunity to show up for him.

Jackson County Firefighters IAFF Local has organized a GoFundMe to provide direct financial assistance to Chase and his family as they navigate the road ahead. What makes a great fire department?

It's more than a job. It's being part of a team that has your back, takes pride in serving others, and answers the call when your community needs you most.

It was great to meet so many people at yesterday's Job Expo at the Endeavor Convention Center. Our crew enjoyed sharing what it's like to serve with Jackson County Fire Rescue and talking with those interested in a career dedicated to protecting lives and serving their neighbors.

One of the things we're most proud of isn't our trucks or equipment, it's our people. Every day, our firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, and support staff work together with professionalism, compassion, and a commitment to serving Jackson County.

We hope everyone who attended the Job Expo finds more than just a job, we hope they find a team where they can grow, make a difference, and feel like they belong. Thank you to the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Jackson EDC, CareerSource Chipola, and Visit Jackson County Fla for bringing together employers and job seekers from across our community.

Today's forecast brings another round of dangerous heat followed by the potential for strong thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

Heat index values could reach 108–112°.

Protect yourself by:
• Drinking plenty of water.
• Taking frequent breaks if working outdoors.
• Spending time in air conditioning whenever possible.
• Checking on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone without adequate cooling.
• Making sure pets have plenty of water and shade.

⛈️ Storms Possible This Afternoon & Evening
Jackson County is under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather.

A few storms could produce:
• Damaging wind gusts

Today brings a dangerous combination of extreme heat followed by the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening.

🌡️ Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Jackson County through early this evening.

Please take the heat seriously:
• Stay hydrated.
• Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
• Take frequent breaks in air conditioning or the shade.
• Check on elderly neighbors, young children, and anyone without reliable cooling.
• Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and shade.

⛈️ As the heat begins to break, strong to severe storms may develop this afternoon and continue into the evening.

Be prepared for:
• Damaging wind gusts
• Frequent lightning
• Heavy rainfall with localized flooding
• Large hail

If severe weather develops, move indoors immediately, avoid driving through flooded roadways, and secure loose outdoor items before storms arrive.

🚒 Training Like Lives Depend on It—Because They Do.

Today, Jackson County Fire Rescue joined our public safety partners for a full-scale emergency response exercise at Marianna K-8 School.

From patient triage and treatment to rescue operations and unified command, exercises like this allow our firefighters, paramedics, and first responders to train in realistic, high-pressure scenarios alongside the agencies they would rely on during an actual emergency. It's an opportunity to strengthen communication, test response plans, and identify ways to improve, before a real emergency ever happens.

We're proud to train alongside our partners, including Jackson County Emergency Management, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Marianna Police Department, Marianna Fire Department, our Volunteer Fire Departments, EMS personnel, AirHeart and Survival Flight crews, the Jackson County School Board, the Florida Department of Health in Jackson County, Chipola College, the American Red Cross, Jackson Hospital, student and community volunteers, and everyone else who helped make today's exercise a success.

At Jackson County Fire Rescue, we believe that the best emergency response starts long before the 911 call comes in. It starts with preparation, practice, and strong partnerships.

This is only a training exercise and not a real emergency. 🚔🚑
🚧 Expect increased law enforcement and first responder presence in the area.

📣 PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE

On Thursday, July 23, Jackson County Emergency Management, in partnership with the School Board, Sheriff's Office, Fire Rescue, Jackson DOH, and local agencies, will conduct a training exercise at Marianna K8 School beginning at 8:00 AM.

You may see a heavy law enforcement and first responder presence in the area — but this is only an exercise. 🚨

🛑 Please avoid the area between 8 AM–2 PM so we can conduct the exercise safely and efficiently.

This exercise helps our community train for real-world emergencies and enhance safety and preparedness of our community.

🐾🔥 Pet Fire Safety Day 🔥🐾

Our pets are family, and just like the rest of your household, they need a fire escape plan too.

A few simple steps can make a big difference:

- Use a pet alert sticker on your front door to let first responders know how many pets are inside.
- Include your pets in your family's fire escape plan and know where they like to hide if they're scared.
- When leaving pets home alone, keep them in areas near an entrance whenever possible so firefighters can locate them more quickly.
- Keep a pet emergency kit with food, medications, leashes, and comfort items ready to grab if you need to evacuate.

Being prepared today can help protect your furry family members tomorrow.
