Jackson County September Weather Summary
September was another below average rainfall month in 2026, with 3.34", -1.16" below average. Through 9 months we have had a total of 42.63", which was -1.55" below normal. 8" soil moisture ranged from a low of 8.1% on 9/10 to a high of 19.8% on 9/21. Temperatures ranged from a low of 56 on 9/28 to a high of 96 on 9/2. The average temperature for the month was 79.

The Panhandle Youth Expo (County Youth Fair) starts on Thursday, October 8 with a livestock judging contest. Friday, October 9 is the Hog, Goat, Poultry, and Rabbit shows. The cattle show on Saturday. Come out and support the 4-H and FFA members as they show their project animals. Purple grass has been showing up in pastures, hay fields, and roadside right of ways in 2/3 of the county the over the poas few weeks. The grass is turning purple because a new invasive insect called Pasture Mealybug is feeding on mature grass. Yesterday was the first official day of our Jackson County Peanut Butter Challenge!! All of our community partner donation boxes have been dropped off and are ready for some peanut butter!
