SMITH FIRE UPDATE β€” Ak-Chin Area

The Smith Fire continued burning overnight near the Ak-Chin Indian Community, and fire crews are actively working the fire.

Residents, particularly on the west side of Maricopa, may see increased smoke between approximately 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. as warmer, drier conditions develop.

If you are experiencing smoke impacts, close windows and doors, limit time outdoors, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity.

There is no evacuation order in effect at this time.

FOR COMMUNITY AWARENESS:

The Maricopa Fire/ Medical Department, in coordination with the Maricopa Police Department, responded to a residential structure fire at approximately 11:30 a.m. on August 1, 2026, in the area of Corvalis Lane and Portarosa in the Glenwilde community.

Two occupants were found deceased inside of the residence. The fire has been extinguished. The Fire Department Arson Investigator remains on scene alongside police investigators conducting an ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident.

🌑️ Extreme Heat Warning through Thursday

The National Weather Service is warning of extreme heat with dangerously hot conditions will continue with highs between 111–116Β°F through Thursday. Limit time outdoors, stay hydrated, check on vulnerable neighbors, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.

Looking ahead, monsoon moisture is expected to increase this weekend, bringing a chance for thunderstorms beginning Sunday and into early next week. Stay weather aware and be prepared for changing conditions.
