SC FORESTRY COMMISSION ISSUING STATEWIDE BURNING BAN

COLUMBIA—The South Carolina Forestry Commission is issuing a State Forester’s Burning Ban for all counties, effective at 6 p.m. today.

A State Forester’s Burning Ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including yard debris burning, prescribed burning, campfires, bonfires and other recreational fires in all unincorporated areas of the state.

Forestry Commission officials say weather conditions over the next several days present a greatly elevated risk of wildfire. The high winds and gusts that prompted the agency to issue a Red Flag Fire Alert yesterday are expected to persist across the state through the weekend.

Additionally, extremely low relative humidities – reaching below 30% in most areas – add to the fire danger.

“The combination of gusty winds and low relative humidity is a recipe for wildfires igniting easily and spreading rapidly,” said SCFC Fire Chief Darryl Jones, “especially when you add to the mix the abundance of dry, late-winter fuels on the ground.”

The ban will stay in effect until further notice, which will come in the form of an official announcement from the Forestry Commission.

Reminder that the laundry trailer is here at the fire station and you can drop your laundry off from 10am-4pm daily and it will be washed, dried and folded for you. This is a free service. Please come take advantage until power is restored

Reminder of the community cookout today at 5pm. Please stop by and grab you some food , supplies, water, dog food/cat food and even a a hot shower. We are getting closer to having power back in the valley as the fire department and a few others got their power back on last night . Please stop by and see us. This Sunday October 6th at 5pm the River Falls FD partnered with Gap Creek Baptist and Marietta First Baptist will be providing hamburgers and hot dogs at 5pm at the fire station for the community. There will be some canned goods and other non perishable food items available along with dog/cat food , dry goods and toys so please stop by to see us. Please share!

There will be a laundry trailer set up at River Falls Fire Dept this coming Monday Oct 7th until Friday Oct 11 from 10am to 4pm daily. This is a free service for the community so that people can have their clothes washed and dried while we are still waiting for power to be restored. Come drop it off and volunteers with some of our local churches will take care of it for you and you can come back and pick it up. Please share.

We are trying to contact Blue Ridge Electric with an estimated time of the power being restored. At this time we do not have any information to share and when and if we do we will be sure to get the news out as soon as possible

We still have plenty of bottled water in front of the fire station and some MRE’s. Please continue to come by and get what you need or we can deliver them to you if needed.

The roads are continuing to improve with the exception of some low hanging power lines on Gap Creek Rd closer to the Hwy 25 side so please be aware .

Due the storm and power situation the Community Fall Celebration on October 12th will be cancelled and rescheduled for sometime in the spring per Carlton Owen
