Last Friday I had meetings out of the office and went to the Windy Hill Community Center to make a pitstop!🏁

I spoke with the manager of Cobb PARKS’ Therapeutic Recreation Services and learned about all they have going on there. That same evening they were holding a Dance Through the Decades party, and I was invited to return. I invited my family, and had a blast!!!! I think the manager knew I would have a good time as this was my second dance party with them!

What stood out to me that night just wasn’t just the programming, it was the people running it. They made sure everyone there had a great time and I did my best to follow suit! You could feel how much this place means to the people who come through its doors.

Cobb has so many great public services that our residents may never hear about. I’m grateful for the people who show up every day to make them happen.

Recent graduates of our Youth Commission sat down for a great conversation with Library Services and it reminded me why this program matters so much.

Cobb’s young people brought real perspective and real ideas to the table from our spring youth commission civic fair, including thoughts on how our libraries and recreation centers could serve as safe after-hours spaces for teens. That kind of input doesn’t get enough credit, and it shouldn’t be overlooked.

Grateful to our team for making this connection happen. More to come as we dig into what’s actionable.

Here’s a look at highlights of the agenda for Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting:

Recognitions & Community
We’ll join the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia in honoring Cobb County Delegation Chair State Rep. David Wilkerson for his legislative service.

Budget Season Begins
The first public hearings for the millage rate and county budget will be held. We encourage residents to attend and share their input.

Infrastructure
Funding is proposed for water system work orders addressing pipe oxidation and stormwater conveyance.

Grants & Sponsorships
The county is set to accept several grants, including funding for Juvenile Justice programs, the Solicitor General’s Office, Meals on Wheels support, an ASPCA grant for Animal Services, and multiple sponsorships for the Cobb 250 Celebration.

Neighborhood Matters to Approve
• A citizen-driven no-parking zone on one side of Atlanta Country Club Drive
• Annexations near Old 41 Hwy/Robin Drive (Kennesaw) and Owenby Road/Canton Road (Marietta)

Public Safety
A Mutual Aid agreement between Marietta Police and Cobb Police is to be approved, plus program management services for the new E-911 Communications Center.

Health & Innovation
We will vote on pre-construction services for the South Cobb Health Facility, and a grant application to fund a CT scanner for the Medical Examiner’s Office, improving death determinations and potentially generating revenue.

Transportation
Commissioners plan to accept $6.6M in Low/No Emissions Grant funds plus $1.1M in Cumberland CID matching funds for the Cumberland Autonomous Vehicle Circulator Pilot, and approve a contract for the Vinings/Cumberland Area Traffic Study supporting the Top End I-285 Project.

Parks
New and renovated restrooms at Noonday Creek Par and improvements to the Cobblestone golf cart path will be considered

Small Business Support
In partnership with the Development Authority we will provide a $4,000 entrepreneurship and innovation grant for THZ ATL to purchase safety and support technology for their youth enrichment facility.

County Staffing
We will also vote on funding an executive search firm for critical county positions

Senior services
Our contract with the Atlanta Regional Commission is to be renewed bringing in $2.3M for aging services.

We will also have an appeal hearing on a License Review Board denial for a Marietta health spa application,

Voting may take longer today at Cobb County polls due to technical issues. Please make sure to stay in line and vote. All persons in line by 7p will be able to vote!

UPDATE @ May 19, 2026 – 12:48PM - Cobb County Elections & Registration experienced technical issues earlier today related to the voter file to isolated polling locations.

We are actively working with the Secretary of State to deploy additional poll pads. In the meantime, polling places are successfully utilizing backup manual check-in procedures to ensure voting continues without interruption.

Voting has not stopped, and all voters in line will be able to cast their ballot. We ask for the public’s patience and understanding as poll workers continue to assist voters and implement these procedures as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
- Cobb County Elections & Registration is aware of issues impacting some election operations today. Backup procedures are in place and voting has NOT stopped.

Voters are encouraged to remain patient as our staff work to assist voters and support polling locations across the county.

All eligible voters in line by 7:00 p.m. will be allowed to cast their ballot.

The Board of Commissioners meets Tuesday, May 12 at 9AM.

We’ll hear updates on Truist Park & The Battery, hold a public hearing on legislative consulting services, and vote on cooling shelters, SPLOST planning, pedestrian safety, and more.

📣 Cobb County residents — here’s a look at what’s coming up!

April is National County Government Month, and Chairwoman Lisa Cupid is sharing a preview of the key items ahead of the April 28th Board of Commissioners meeting.

🎓 Graduates from the Youth Commission will be honored, Cobb 4H students who placed NATIONALLY will be celebrated, and Whitefield Academy will be recognized for earning AP Honor Roll Platinum status for the 3rd year in a row!

👴 Cobb Senior Services is set to receive an additional $240K from the Atlanta Regional Commission — bringing its total annual contract to $2.4M to better serve Cobb’s senior residents.

✈️ A new contract with Georgia DOT would send $2.2M to Cobb International Airport for gate upgrades, airfield maintenance, and pavement improvements.

🚨 911 could be getting smarter — new AI technology would help triage non-emergency calls so true emergencies get the fastest response possible.

🗺️ A Comprehensive Plan update is on the way — a 20+ year roadmap for how Cobb grows and develops.

🗳️ The Board will vote on a SPLOST project list for the 2028 program — a one-penny sales tax for roads and buildings headed to the November 2026 ballot.

Today, we lost a giant. Congressman David Scott dedicated over two decades of his life to serving the people of metro Atlanta and when Cobb County was part of his district, he served us well.

He helped secure significant federal dollars for projects that strengthened our community. He opened doors to jobs for thousands of residents through his job fairs. He hosted health fairs that helped save lives.

Congressman Scott understood that public service meant more than casting votes. It meant making sure people could eat, work, and get the care they needed. It also meant top notch responsiveness to public officials like me and to each person who contacted his office for help.

Even after redistricting moved Cobb out of his district, the relationships he built and the investments he made here continued to bear fruit.

To his wife Alfredia, his daughters Dayna and Marcye, and the entire Scott family — please know that Cobb County mourns with you. We are grateful for a man who believed deeply that every constituent deserved a congressman who worked hard on their behalf and I will always appreciate his support and encouragement of me.
