Cobb County Government Posting Policies:
Policy Regarding Comments
Terms of Service

You are solely responsible for your comments and by using Cobb County social media/hosted feeds you agree to our policy. ..
Why do we moderate readers' comments? Our goal is to provide an information feed for a general readership which may include children. By screening comments, we have created a space where

readers may exchange intelligent and informed commentary that enhances the quality of information exchange between citizens and county government. While most comments will be posted if they are on-topic and not abusive, moderating decisions are subjective. We may not review all moderation decisions with readers and generally cannot alter a comment once it is posted. In most cases, a comment that is removed will simply be removed. However, when needed in order to restore balance and a neutral environment, we may from time to time point out rules. What kind of comments are we looking for? We value thoughtful comments representing a range of views that make their point quickly and politely. We make an effort to protect discussions from repeated comments – either by the same reader or different readers. We follow general standards of taste and will emphasize respect for others. A few things we won't tolerate: personal attacks, obscenity, vulgarity, profanity (including expletives and letters followed by dashes), commercial promotion, impersonations, incoherence and SHOUTING. Do we edit comments? Comments are either allowed to remain or they're not. We reserve the right to correct/clarify facts and a comment that is quoted or excerpted in an article may be removed as we seek to protect copyrighted material as much as possible. Comments that are excessively long may be removed. We may from time to time remove one or our own posts in order to correct typos or if it is in the interest of clarity. When this does occur, all comments attached will also be removed. When and where will my comment be displayed? Cobb County currently uses Facebook and, at present, comments post without manual delay. Although comments are reviewed during regular business hours, be aware that comments may be monitored at any time. We reserve the right to limit comments. Should I use my real name when making a comment? Yes, definitely. We have found that people who use their names carry on more engaging, respectful conversations. However, we recommend against revealing personal contact information on security grounds. We also will remove posts with objectionable images. Campaign slogans (including commercial promotion) and/or images that are counter to our policy and general good taste will be removed. We may not, however, provide an explanation and reserve the right to block readers based on any of these issues. A reminder: Once your comment is published, it may be found in search results on Web sites like Google and Yahoo. What about criticism of Cobb County? We respect strong opinions and criticism of our work, but we don't want comments to become bogged down with discussions of our policies, and we will moderate accordingly. What if I see an error in a post or a comment? What is the best way to suggest a correction? We appreciate it when readers point out errors and will investigate all assertions. But these suggestions should be respectful. To avoid distracting other readers, we may elect to remove comments that suggest a correction and simply repost if we feel the repost is warranted.
