So, am I disappointed in the results of tonight’s primary? Sure, I wish it had gone the other way. I called Commissioner Birrell a few minutes after 10:00 PM and congratulated her on her victory and well-run campaign. I also offered my support in the General Election.

But, let’s get something straight. I don’t feel like a loser. Surrounded by family and supporters, I was filled with pride. We accomplished a lot, and I know we have made an impact.

I thank all of those that supported me, and all of those that voted for me. I feel like this is more of a beginning than an ending.

My opponent is running so she can oversee the opening of a park outside her district and try to develop a parcel of blighted land that has worsened during her 8 years in office. I want to cut spending and balance the budget so we can pay higher salaries for firefighters and police. The choice is yours.

Unlike my incumbent opponent, I am not afraid to attend public forums and state where I stand on Cobb County issues:

I oppose a Marta Tax in a carved-out District. The entire county would be obligated to pay the debt, so I would not take away your right to vote on this 30-year $4.2 billion tax.

My opponent cast the deciding "Yes" vote to ask the GA legislature to approve a referendum for a new permanent $140 million/year tax. She later claimed she didn't vote for it, but she can't change the record.

I believe we can balance the budget without a millage rate increase. The increase in the tax digest is being understated. The increase in digest, along with modest cuts and permanent SPLOST Reform is enough to close the gap.

I am a taxpayer advocate who fought for transparency, responsible spending , and reform. My opponent is the only Commissioner to vote for both the Braves deal, and the $140 million/ year OLOST Tax. The choice is yours.

My 8-year incumbent opponent had "schedule conflicts" and could not attend the GRA candidate forum or the CCCC candidate forum. So, I repeat my offer to a one-on-one debate on the issues. A 90 minute open debate at a location, date, time and moderator of her choosing.
I am not an absentee candidate, and I will not be an absentee Commissioner. This is a crucial time for our county. Not a time to hide from voters.

The problem - Cobb County cannot afford replacement police cars. The Board of Commissioners proposed solution - asking the GA legislature to approve a referendum to raise taxes by $140 million a year. The total amount needed - $16.2 million over 4 years.

My solution - a referendum to cut spending.
Under my proposal, no employees lose their job, and only nonessential projects are eliminated such as:

$2 million to put artificial turf in a public park
$1 million for another traffic study
$4 million community center minutes from SunTrust Park

By eliminating these projects that are not in the best interest of Cobb County, the money saved can be used on basic needs like police cars, and road resurfacing.

Even better - my solution forces the Board to address this question permanently: How did such a prosperous county end up with no money for police cars?

Note: Commissioners Bob Ott Lisa Cupid opposed the referendum to raise taxes. Incumbent Commissioner JoAnn Birrell voted in favor of asking the GA legislature to approve a referendum to raise taxes by $140 million a year.
