What a great opportunity to say thank you to our teachers, schools, PTSA leaders and all the volunteers that make "It Happen". Our East Cobb Schools consistently get high scores in state rankings, and I'm honored to continue to serve our amazing community. We are grateful to Commissioner JoAnn Birrell for leading District 3 and supporting all of our parents, teachers, and students throughout in Cobb County!

State Representatives Devan Seabaugh (R-Marietta) and Joseph Gullett (R-Dallas) joined a large crowd of family members, friends and supporters at the Paulding County Airport to wish Miss Georgia 2026 Sophia Wootten and Miss Georgia Teen 2026 Melony Tidmore well as they departed for the Miss America competition in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Wootten will represent Georgia in the 2027 Miss America competition, while Tidmore will compete for the title of Miss America Teen 2027.

“I am deeply grateful for the encouragement I have received from people across our state,” Wootten said. “It is an incredible honor to represent Georgia, and I look forward to sharing our state’s spirit of service, strength and opportunity on the national stage.”

Tidmore, a 17-year-old Powder Springs resident, said the enthusiastic send-off made the occasion even more meaningful.

“To see so many people here supporting us is something I will never forget,” Tidmore said. “I am proud to represent Georgia and excited to carry the love and encouragement of my community with me to West Palm Beach.”

Seabaugh and Gullett praised both young women for their leadership, accomplishments and commitment to serving others.

“Sophia and Melony represent the very best of Georgia,” Seabaugh said. “They have worked incredibly hard, carried themselves with grace and used their platforms to make a positive difference in the lives of others. These are two incredible women, and we are very proud of them. The entire state of Georgia will be cheering them on.”

The national competitions will be held in West Palm Beach, with Miss America’s Teen crowned Sept. 5 and Miss America crowned Sept. 6.

You Earned It. You Should Keep More of It!

This session, I was proud to co-sponsor HB 1001, legislation to accelerate Georgia’s income tax reduction from 5.19% to 4.99%.

For me, cutting taxes is about more than percentages on a spreadsheet. It means more money in the family budget for groceries, childcare, a mortgage payment, a tank of gas or putting something away for the future.

Georgia ultimately enacted a broader tax package cutting the income-tax rate to 4.99% and has established a path for additional reductions in the years ahead. What we know to be true is that as we have lowered your taxes, state revenues have continued to increase.

I’m not finished. My goal is simple: keep reducing the tax burden on Georgia families while maintaining the responsible budgeting that has made our state strong.
