Saving Generations successfully started a community garden in the Wilson Park/Govans neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland this summer. We had limited resources this year due to the city’s bureaucracy. We literally had to bring jugs of water or borrow water from neighbors (you can see the jugs in the photos). We are hoping to expand our efforts in 2020 in both the city of Baltimore and Metro Atlanta. We would like to raise money to get a functioning self-sustained water system in place. Apparently, the previous owner of the property passed away several years ago which left the property abandoned. The city took responsibility of the property and demolished the dilapidated house since it was a hazardous eyesore. According to the city, even though the city has gotten involved and have rights of use on the land it is still considered private property with an outstanding 2013 water bill & a 2015 sewage bill. The frustration continues because they won’t allow us to simply pay the bill (since it’s in the deceased person’s name) which would allow us to rightfully get a new meter installed on the property. Therefore, we have to get creative and come up with a way to get water on the property so the vegetables will thrive to not only feed the volunteers of the garden but anyone with children, seniors, veterans or disabled in the community.
Stay tune for future announcements regarding the community garden, mentoring program, the entrepreneurship program, parenting classes and life coaching sessions. We are always open to donations (monetary & gifts-in-kind) to help us further our mission.
