Become a certified Adopt-A-Stream Bacterial Monitoring volunteer at our next workshop on Thursday, November 5, 6:30-9pm!

E. coli is an indicator organism that is often used to assess the water quality. Monitoring levels of E. coli can help identify possible sources of pollution. This workshop will focus on proper collection of a water sample, transfer of sample onto plates that will be incubated, and proper interpretation of results. Participants will have the opportunity to take a test to become QA/QC certified for up to a year.

The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District invites students in grades 6–8 across its 15-county region to share their ideas in the 2026 Middle School Essay Contest. Choose from two prompts focused on drought, water conservation and how we can work together to protect our water resources.

One winner from each of the 15 counties as well as the City of Atlanta will receive $100. The District-wide winner will be selected from among the county and city winners to receive an additional $400 for a total prize of $500.

Join us on Friday,October 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Water Quality Lab Training Room (662 South Cobb Dr, Marietta) for a screening & discussion of The Invisible Mammal, a documentary by filmmaker Kristin Tieche.

Against the backdrop of a global pandemic and the sixth mass extinction, Tieche explores the crucial roles that bats play in our shared environment. She also shares how a team of women bat scientists set out to save the North American bat species from a deadly fungal disease, called White-nose syndrome (WNS), to create a better future for both bats and humans. The Invisible Mammal will immerse you in the world of bats and forever change the way you feel about these amazing little creatures.
