This World Lake Day, we’re highlighting Lake Allatoona and our Northwest Water Reclamation Facility. Both play a vital role in our wastewater treatment process.

Lake Allatoona is one of two drinking water sources in Cobb County. Water from the lake is treated at a drinking water treatment facility before it’s delivered to customers. After it’s use, the Northwest WRF, one of the Cobb’s four wastewater reclamation facilities, treats wastewater before returning highly treated reclaimed water to the lake.

That connection is an important reminder that water doesn’t simply disappear after we use it. It moves from the water source to our homes and businesses, and back to a waterway, undergoing chemical and biological processes to ensure the health of our customers and protect the environment.

What can you do to help take care of our lake?
• Keep trash and pollutants out of storm drains
• Use fertilizers and chemicals responsibly
• Pick up after pets

Join us in congratulating Brian Camp on his recent promotion to Water Protection Division Manager!

Brian has served the Water System for more than 17 years working his way up through various roles, including Water Protection Assistant Division Manager, WRF Superintendent, WRF Supervisor, and WRF Operator.

In his new role, Brian will oversee the Water Protection, including the four Water Reclamation Facilities, Central Maintenance, Technical Services Group, Environmental Compliance, and the Water Quality Lab.

Thank you to all who joined us for our Frog and Salamander Strolls this season!

We’ve loved sharing our appreciation for local streams and the amazing amphibians that call them home. During our walks, we’ve heard plenty of frogs calling, spotted frogs and salamanders up close, and even had a few special wildlife guest appearances!

A special thank you to Dr. Todd Pierson, Associate Professor of Biology at Kennesaw State University, for joining our most recent stroll. With his help, we found more than 20 salamanders at Powder Springs Park! We’re excited to work with Dr. Pierson again in February and learn more about what he and his students are discovering about salamanders in Georgia’s streams.

We hope you’ll join us when our Frog and Salamander Strolls return in February!

Today, we’re congratulating Tommy Baker on his retirement after 20 years of service!

Tommy began his career with Cobb Water in 2006 as an Equipment Operator in Stormwater. After earning a promotion to Equipment Operator II in System Maintenance, he continued growing his career and joined Central Maintenance as a Water Reclamation Facility Maintenance Technician III.

Congratulations, Tommy, and best wishes for a well-earned retirement!

Now available at select Cobb Libraries: alkaline battery recycling!

Through a new sustainability initiative with Keep Cobb Beautiful, residents can now drop off used alkaline batteries for recycling at seven designated library branches: , , , , , , and .

Damaged or corroded batteries cannot be accepted.

This initiative addresses a critical gap in local waste management, and aims to keep hazardous household waste out of landfills.
