Earlier today Senior Patrol Officer Staso was chosen for promotion to the rank of sergeant! 😎

Staso holds (2) separate associate degrees in Criminal Justice. He has also served in the US Air Force for 16.5 years, with a current rank of TSgt/E-6, and has served our community for the past 12 years! ❤️

Everyone is in danger of falling victim to "Imposter scams". But the elderly are often targeted and therefore more vulnerable.

Elder abuse isn’t always physical. It can be financial, emotional, or cyber-related, and scammers are becoming more convincing every day. They prey on trust, urgency, and sometimes loneliness.

An Imposter scam can occur several different ways.

*Scammers may pose as a government employee and threaten to arrest or prosecute you unless you agree to pay alleged fines, taxes, etc.
*Scammers may solicit meetings via text message, social media, etc
*Scammers may report that a relative has been arrested, abducted, or injured and request payment for their release or treatment (virtual kidnapping)

These are all RED FLAGS of a scam. Please take a moment today to share the attached information with a parent, grandparent, neighbors, and friends.

Another successful RAD Kids summer in the books! 133 total kids received hands-on personal safety training! 😎

This summer the MPD Rad Kids team hosted their normal 5–7-year-old and 8–12-year-old classes that had 20 participants each. On top of that, the 6th annual RAD Kids CAMP was held July 13–16 at the Cobb County Safety Village. This year's camp was the largest and most successful in the program's history, serving 93 children with the support of approximately 30 staff members and volunteers. The collaborative effort included personnel from the Marietta Police Department, MPD civilian volunteers, the Dallas Police Department, Cobb County Sheriff's Office, Cobb County Police Dept., and Cobb County Safety Village staff.

The camp featured six general education classes with approximately 15 children per class and achieved a historic milestone by hosting the first RAD Kids camp in the nation specifically designed for special education students. This groundbreaking effort demonstrated an unwavering commitment to ensuring that safety education is accessible and inclusive for all children.

SPECIAL THANKS TO THE TEACHERS! The officers and volunteers devoted countless hours to teaching children critical personal safety skills, including how to recognize dangerous situations, avoid potential threats, and, when necessary, escape violence or harm. Their professionalism, patience, and dedication had a direct and positive impact on every child who attended. The success of this camp reflects the highest standards of community policing and public service. These officers went above and beyond their normal duties to invest in the safety and well-being of our community's children. Their commitment to empowering young people with life-saving knowledge and skills is truly commendable. KUDOS to all who made this possible!

SCHOOL’S BACK — IS IT TIME FOR A SCREEN-TIME RESET?

Between phones, tablets, gaming systems, TVs and computers, screen time can add up quickly — especially after the school day ends.

The start of a new school year is a great time for families to reset expectations and establish healthy habits at home.

• Set clear limits for recreational screen time after school.
• Make homework, chores and other responsibilities a priority before gaming or social media.
• Create screen-free times, such as during meals and family activities.
• Consider a nightly “device bedtime” and keep phones and tablets out of bedrooms overnight.
• Encourage kids to spend time outside, exercise, read or connect with friends and family in person.
• Know what your child is doing online — not just how long they’re online.
• Parents, model the habits you want your kids to develop. Put your own phone down sometimes, too!

Most importantly, make screen time a conversation rather than a constant battle. Setting clear and consistent expectations can help kids develop healthier digital habits that last beyond the school year.
