As a nation we come together to honor the men and woman who died in the line of duty. This week is national police week, and for this week we still honor the memory of Marina DPS Reserver Officer Kolone Kolone Jr. who was the only one in our department history to die in the line of duty, 4/20/92.

As a POA we would also like to honor the memory of Salinas PD Officer Jorge David Alvarado Jr. who died on 2/25/22.

May both officers continue to rest in peace.

If you’re wondering why there are American flags up today in the medians on Reservation and Del Monte Blvd… well today the Monterey County Police Officers Association will be having a parade of police cars from all most every agency in Monterey County. The memorial is to coincide with national police week (which is May 15th through the 21st).

There will be a procession of police cars traveling down west bound Reservation Road to Del Monte Blvd at or around 4pm today. Come out and show your support.

For the month of October, our sworn and non-sworn employees of the Marina Police Department will be wearing the patch depicted in the photo. All employees can also wear a pink ribbon on their uniform or wear a pink undershirt as well to support the survivors of breast cancer.

If you’d like a pink patch, come down to the lobby of the Marina Police Department which is next to the civic center and playground. The patch costs 10.00 dollars. You can purchase the patch with cash or a check written out the Marina Police Officers Association.

It’s been a while but here’s an update… Today three of Marina’s finest traveled to Roseville to pay respects to Officer Harminder Grewal of the Galt Police Dept. One of the officers pictured to the far left graduated with Officer Grewal when they went to the academy together.

This week is National Police Week, May 10th though the 16th. As we reflect on police week, we as a nation pay tribute to the police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. We would like to remember Reserve Public Safety Officer Kolone Kolone Jr. He died during a foot pursuit of a suspect who had warrants for his arrest on 4/20/1992.

In April of every year, public safety dispatchers (fire, police and medical) are celebrated for the work they do. This year from April 12th through the 18th, is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. These men and women are the first voice anybody hears when they call 911. Thank you so much for what you do and being the calm voice in a time of crisis.
