As we reflect back on the terrible events that unfolded before our eyes, twenty years ago today, we remember and honor those who lost their lives, 412 Public Safety personnel from in and around New York City who made the ultimate sacrifice. We also remember the innocent civilian lives lost on the airliners, those at the World Trade Centers, Pentagon and all those thrust into war to defend our great nation.

Images and news coverage of the events served as a recruiting poster of great magnitude. Men and women of all ages and walks of life flocked to recruiting centers to join the armed forces as other sought to become police officers, firefighters, and EMS providers. Many of those in the twenty years following, making the ultimate sacrifice themselves.

The events of that day changed many things in our lives. Some long lasting, like how we travel and some short lived, like putting our differences aside and looking out for one another. One of the best ways we can honor those who sacrificed so much is to get back to those times of putting differences aside and looking out for one another…again!

To all our service men and women and public safety professionals who put their lives on the line everyday, keeping us safe and coming to the aid of those needing help, thank you. And thank you to the families who support these brave men and women as they do the job they love. I also want to say special thank you to the members of the Marinette Fire Department, “my guys”, and their families for their hard work and dedication.

God Bless you all,

Chief Jay Heckel

This is a picture of a hydrant on the corner of Gilbert & Dawes we connected to during a structure fire incident on the 700 block of Dawes St on Tuesday 2/9.

Whomever cleared around the hydrant did an exceptional job. This person is a hydrant hero! This made hydrant connection quicker and easier so we were able to get water on the fire in a very time efficient manner.

The Marinette Fire and Police Department was able to pay tribute to a local community active service member of the Army Reserves who just returned home from over a year of being away in the Middle East. So fitting we were able to honor this family on Christmas Eve.

The fire engine and squad car met the couple at Mickey Lou’s on their way back from the Green Bay airport and escorted them home.

Thank you for your service Kyle!

Congratulations to our bike contest winners Elsa and Mason! We hope you both enjoy your new bike!
To qualify for a new bike all 3rd grade students in the Marinette School District are asked to check the smoke detectors in their home. They are to sign a contract along with one of their parents/guardians explaining they completed the check and all detectors are in good working order.
We would also like to thank Walmart for their continued support of our program by their annual donation of the two bikes and helmets.
