Legislation Signed into Law Makes it Easier to Get Prescriptions Filled. Illinois patients who arrive at a pharmacy only to find their medication is out of stock will now have an easier time getting their prescriptions filled under newly signed legislation.

Senate Bill 3213 expands the types of prescriptions that can be electronically transferred from one pharmacy to another. The new law brings Illinois requirements more closely in line with federal standards, making it easier for patients to transfer prescriptions when needed. It also makes it easier for medical professionals to issue prescriptions after hours.

Pritzker Administration Continues Pattern of Pulling State Resources from Downstate Illinois. How many state facilities and jobs have to disappear before the Pritzker Administration admits Downstate Illinois is being left behind? Logan Correctional Center. Choate. Now there are four more Downstate IDOC facilities. These aren't just buildings on a spreadsheet. They are jobs, families, services, and communities that matter. Governor Pritzker represents the entire state, and Downstate families deserve more than another round of closures, lost jobs, and excuses.

Southern Illinois native Sam Kuhnert, founder and executive director of NubAbility, was recently named Grand Marshal of the 2026 Du Quoin State Fair. Born with one hand, Kuhnert went on to become a three-sport athlete in high school and later pitched college baseball. He has since dedicated much of his life to helping children with limb differences build confidence and pursue their athletic goals. Kuhnert founded NubAbility, a national organization that provides sports camps, coaching and mentorship opportunities for children with limb differences.

Each year, the Gold Star Family Ceremony at the Du Quoin State Fair is a solemn and meaningful reminder of the tremendous sacrifice made by our fallen service members and the families they left behind. 🇺🇸 I was honored to join Gold Star families as they gathered together to remember their loved ones and ensure their service and sacrifice are never forgotten. We owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to those who gave all in service to our country. May we always remember their names, honor their sacrifice, and continue to stand beside the families who carry their legacy forward. ❤️🤍💙

Governor Pritzker cannot ignore the federal protections that are in place for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illness.

The Ligas and Williams Consent Decrees make clear that individuals have rights and choices when it comes to where they receive care. That includes the right to remain in an institutional setting when that is the appropriate choice for them.

Now, the Governor is openly talking about moving Illinois away from state-operated developmental centers altogether.

I strongly oppose any effort to force vulnerable individuals out of the care settings they and their families believe are best for them.

The people who depend on facilities like Choate deserve stability, dignity, and a real voice in their future.

Illinois Takes a National Lead in Crisis Intervention Team Training

The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, in partnership with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, has established a dedicated 24/7 callout line and email address for the Crisis Intervention Team Crisis Response Therapy Canine Certification Program. The statewide program provides specially trained therapy canine teams to support individuals and communities experiencing trauma or crisis. The new callout line and email address make it easier for schools, first responders, local governments, businesses, community organizations and residents across Illinois to request the assistance of certified crisis response therapy canine teams.

To request a Therapy Canine Team, call 773-67-4DOGS (3647), Option 9, or email [email protected].

Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend last night’s Choate Town Hall at Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. We had a great turnout, and I truly appreciate the employees, families, community members and concerned Southern Illinois residents who came out to listen, ask questions and share their concerns about the future of Choate.

Choate is incredibly important to Southern Illinois, not only to the individuals who receive care there, but to their families, the dedicated employees who serve them every day, and the entire region. There are still many questions that need answers, and I know there is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding what comes next. Please know that we are listening. Your concerns matter, your stories matter, and your voices deserve to be heard as these decisions are made.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us last night, as well as my fellow Southern Illinois legislators and community leaders who continue to work together on behalf of Choate and the people we represent.
