$60,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Puckett.

$60,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Puckett.

The FBI is offering a reward up to $50,000 for information to locate and capture Michael Timothy Puckett. This adds to the $10,000 already being offered by the U.S. Marshals Service for a combined reward up to $60,000.

FBI Richmond is assisting the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Marshals, the Virginia State Police, and multiple local and state agencies in a manhunt for Puckett, who is facing an Aggravated Murder charge in Virginia.

Carroll County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a welfare check at Puckett's home on Fancy Gap Highway on Friday at approximately 9:30 p.m. When they arrived and made contact, authorities said Puckett opened fire, shooting both deputies, killing one deputy and injuring the second. He then fled the scene.

We are asking the public to check surveillance video or trail/hunting camera images to assist in real-time tracking of the fugitive. We also ask home and business owners to lock your vehicles, close your garage doors, lock up your sheds and do not leave anything outside Puckett could use to assist him to elude capture. Call 911 if you see Puckett.

We send our prayers to Carroll County this morning.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At approximately 9:26 p.m., the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received a request from a family member to conduct a welfare check at 13658 Fancy Gap Highway.

Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the residence. Upon arrival, two deputies made contact with a male subject identified as Michael Puckett. During the encounter, Puckett opened fire on the responding deputies. Deputies returned fire.

Both deputies were struck by gunfire. One deputy sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased. The second deputy was struck in his ballistic vest and is currently receiving medical evaluation and is reported to be in stable condition.

Michael Puckett fled the scene and remains at large. A coordinated law enforcement search is currently underway.

Puckett should be considered armed and extremely dangerous. Anyone who sees him or has information regarding his whereabouts is urged not to approach him and to immediately call 911.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

ELEVATED FIRE DANGER FOR MUCH OF CENTRAL, SOUTHERN, AND SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA FOR TODAY APRIL 13TH...

The combination of 10 hour fuel moistures around 10 percent, relative humidities around 25 to 30 percent, and wind gusts around 20 to 25 mph will lead to an increased risk for the rapid spread of wildfires today.

Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers. Additionally, exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks and keep vehicles off of dry grass. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could
easily ignite and spread fire quickly.

Lastly, remember to obey local burn bans. For more information about wildfire danger, burn restrictions, and wildfire prevention and education, please visit your state forestry or environmental protection website.
