McDowell County Public Library The McDowell County Public Library (NC) has 2 locations--Marion, NC and Old Fort, NC. A picture ID, preferably a valid drivers license, is suggested.

The Abe Simmons Genealogy & North Carolina History Room is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 5:30pm and also the 3rd Saturday of each month from 11am to 5pm, but closed for lunch from 12:30pm-1:30pm. Items in the Genealogy room are for reference only and may not be removed from the room. Anyone over the age of five who lives, works , goes to school, or owns property in McDowell County may re

gister to borrow materials. To get a library card, bring one form of identification with your correct mailing address to the circulation desk. Children under 17 will need the signature of a parent or legal guardian. People who live outside the county may get a library card by paying a fee of $15, renewable annually. Loan Periods:
New Books and Magazines- 14 days
DVDs- 7 days
All other items- 21 days

Limits:
Borrow as many items as you can use and return on time, with the exception of audiobooks and DVDs/videos which are limited to 7 per borrower. You may renew materials by telephone up to 4 times, if the items are not reserved. Children under 17 may borrow videos and DVDs if a signed parental consent form is on file. Overdue Fines:
Videos/DVDs- $1.00 per day per item
All other materials- $.10 per day per item

🚧 Parking Lot Update 🚧

The Marion Library's back parking lot will be closed Monday, May 25th-Thursday, May 28th while it is being repaved as part of an important improvement project for our community.

The library will remain OPEN during the paving work. We appreciate everyone's patience as we work to make the library safer and more accessible for our patrons.

This project was one of the top improvements identified through our recent strategic planning survey, and we're excited to see these community-driven improvements taking shape!

Over the past two days, I've been walking around Marion visiting local businesses, and our community has already shown up in such an incredible way for this year's Summer Reading Program!

So far, these amazing businesses have donated gift cards and prizes to help make Summer Reading extra special for our patrons. And the best part? More donations are still coming!

Because of the generosity of our community, the prizes this year are going to be AMAZING, including an adult grand prize "gift card tree" filled with gift cards from local businesses! ✨

We are so thankful to live in a community that supports literacy, learning, and our library programs. Please help us thank these wonderful sponsors for their generosity and support of Summer Reading!
