It has come to the Marion Township Trustee's attention, that there are solicitor's in the Grandview area going door to door for the electric aggregation program. They are solicitors from SFE Energy (a Canadian company who also works out of California) saying that they represent Marion Township's Aggregation programs & if you don't sign up, they use scare tactics to get homeowners to sign. This is not Marion Township doing this - if you sign with them, it will kick you off of our Aggregation program, you may start paying more for your electric & gas suppliers plus they may charge you a huge disconnection fee to get out of it. They prey on unsolicited homeowners & catch you off guard, telling you lies. If you HAVE fallen for their tactics, you should have 3 days ("Lemon Law") to change your mind. Contact their office ASAP & tell them you don't want their service. REGISTER A COMPLAINT - Also, call the PUCO & tell them what happened.

SFE Energy Scam Concerns and Red Flags!
SFE Energy has a poor reputation and multiple documented complaints, with some consumers alleging deceptive or aggressive sales tactics.
Key issues reported:
Door-to-door aggressive sales: Multiple customers, including in Ohio’s Lakewood, report that SFE reps came to their homes, signed them up for energy services, and left them with a “bad sinking feeling” about the deal.
Deceptive marketing: Complaints allege reps misrepresented bill components (e.g., claiming they could eliminate a “bypassable” transmission charge) and pressured customers into signing without fully understanding the terms.
Slamming and unauthorized enrollment: In Maryland, SFE was accused of enrolling customers without their consent, switching them to SFE from other providers, and charging thousands more.
High-pressure tactics: BBB records show customers describing high-pressure sales, unclear contract terms, and difficulty canceling.
Regulatory action: The Maryland Public Service Commission issued a cease-and-desist order and reached a $150,000 penalty and $400,000 refund settlement after dozens of complaints
The BBB has rescinded its accreditation due to the volume of complaints.
Consumer warnings:
Never sign up for energy services from a door-to-door representative unless you are certain of the terms and have time to review them.
Check your bill: You cannot eliminate all charges from your utility bill — transmission and provider charges are separate and unavoidable.
Verify licensing: If SFE is selling in your state, confirm that their agents are licensed for door-to-door marketing and carry proper business cards stating they are not affiliated with your utility.
Review contracts carefully: Look for cancellation terms, early termination fees, and whether you are switching from your current provider.
If you’ve already signed up:
Contact your utility company to confirm your current provider and whether SFE is listed.
If you believe you were enrolled without consent, contact your state’s public utility commission or consumer protection agency.
Keep all communication records and consider seeking legal advice if you believe you were misled.
Bottom line: SFE Energy has a history of aggressive, sometimes deceptive sales and regulatory enforcement actions. Consumers are advised to proceed with extreme caution, especially with door-to-door offers, and to verify all terms before committing.
