Day three recap!

The rain couldn’t stop these Cadets from throwing ladders, forcible entry, search and rescue, and venting. Cadets spent the morning in the classroom learning the fundamentals of Truck Company Operations and then jumped right in to hands on experience. A pulled pork lunch was provided by Buchanan Valley Fire Department. THANK YOU BVFD!!! Cadets got back outside, and spent the rest of the afternoon cycling through different skills rotations.

Cadets, remember, the work is never done. Never stop training and working to better yourself. Train as if your life depends on it…because it does!

It’s graduation day for our Cadets!! Thank you, Cadets, for taking time out of your summer vacation to be here and train. The future is you!

Parents/guardians, fire departments, families, our graduation festivities begin at 1530 (3:30PM) today! Cadets will start with a live drill, show casing all that they’ve learned in the last three days…we can’t wait to show you!

Day two recap!

Cadets started their day designing their class flag. After that was completed, Cadets learned about Engine Company Operations in the classroom. The Cadets then had their morning PT session. Following PT, we knocked out some gear donning drills, focusing on consistency and attention to detail. After a few rounds of gear drills, the Cadets broke into their practical rotations and started with hands on experience in Engine Co Operations. Lunch consisted of sloppy joes, hot dogs, baked beans, mac and cheese, and ice cream curtesy of Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department. THANK YOU CO.7!!!! After lunch was done, Cadets got right back to it, continuing to rotate through different practical drills.

Cadets, where does growth happen?? Outside of your comfort zone!! Don’t be afraid to push yourself…your body can go further than what your mind is telling you! Never. Give. Up.

Cadets are now settled into the classroom as we prepare to start day three! Cadets will be learning about Truck Company Operations this morning in lecture and will then start hands on practice with what they learned throughout the morning.

Thank you to all the donors, cadets, families, staff, and fire departments for your continued support of the Franklin County Junior Firefighter Academy. It’s because of YOU that we can do this for our youth, thank you!

The class flag has been taken…

The Cadets were given the option of doing push ups or allowing the flag to go on a trip. The Cadets voted to let their flag go…little did they know push ups were in their future anyway due to their loss.

The Cadets are learning a valuable life lesson in the importance of pride, accountability, putting in the work to do things right, and to not take the “easy” road.

Day two is off and running!

Cadets started the day off designing their class flag. Currently, they are learning about Engine Company Operations in the classroom and will put that information into hands on practice throughout the day.

Day one ✅

After hearing a motivational speech from Chief Dave McGlynn, the Cadets jumped right in to PT. After warming up for the day, Shippensburg EMS helped the Cadets develop and strengthen their Stop the Bleed skills. The Cadets then moved into a PPE and SCBA lecture, learning the components and importance of their gear. Following the lecture, the Cadets put to practice what they just learned and went through several rounds of donning their gear. By this time, Franklin County Station 4 had a delicious lunch ready to go for our Cadets and staff. Thank you Station 4!! Following lunch, the Cadets spent the rest of the day becoming more comfortable and confident in their gear, learning to tie different knots, and becoming familiar with frequently used tools.

Cadets, remember, act like YOU chose to be here. No one can do the work for you except YOU!
