It's been 25 years since the 9/11 terror attacks on America. On Friday, the nation will remember those lost on that fateful day and take a moment of silence in their memory.

On this quarter-century anniversary of the attacks, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum will add a seventh moment of silence to honor those who have died of illnesses related to their time at or near the World Trade Center site.

We had a pretty special night at Woodlawn-Sevier Volunteer Fire Department last night.

After a lot of hard work, we were honored to host the NC Office of State Fire Marshals office and the McDowell County EOC team along with the WSVFSD members for a dinner and the presentation of our official ISO rating.

Woodlawn-Sevier has officially gone from an ISO 9 to an ISO 5.

For a rural volunteer fire department, that is a pretty big deal, and it is something our members have worked very hard to accomplish. There have been a lot of hours, training, equipment improvements, planning and behind-the-scenes work that went into getting us here.

A huge thank you to all of the members of Woodlawn-Sevier Volunteer Fire Department for putting in the work, and to the NC Office of State Fire Marshal and McDowell County EOC for working with us and helping us get to this point. We really appreciate the support.

And for those who live within 5 miles of the fire department, make sure you let your homeowners insurance company know about our new ISO 5 rating. It may help lower your insurance rates. The same goes for businesses within that qualifying area, as the improved rating can mean lower insurance rates for them as well.

We're proud of this accomplishment, but even more importantly, we're proud that the work we've put in means we're better prepared to protect our community.

A better rating, a better prepared department, and a safer community for everyone.

Today we assisted Ashford-North Cove Volunteer Fire Dept along with MAMA - Mountain Area Medical Airlift and McDowell County EMS

We also assisted Spruce Pine Fire and Rescue in Mitchell County all while responding to a medical call in our community. It was a busy day for all.

Busy day for C Shift.

Today, Medic 6 worked alongside our partners at Woodlawn Fire Department, North Cove Fire Department, McDowell County Rescue Squad, and MAMA during an emergency response in our community.

We are incredibly grateful for the teamwork, professionalism, and strong partnerships that exist between our emergency services agencies. Thank you to all crews involved for continuing to serve McDowell County with dedication and compassion every single day. 🚑🚁
