Liberals gone wild.

SPILLVILLE, Iowa – Spillville Mayor Paul Wermers completely lost it the other day when a journalist had the nerve to ask Democratic congressional candidate Lindsay James a basic question about agriculture.

Instead of letting the candidate handle her own responses like any normal adult, Wermers decided to play bodyguard and slapped the camera right out of the reporter’s hand, sending it to the ground.

The whole thing was caught on video, and it looks exactly as bad as it sounds.

Are elected officials supposed to physically interfere with someone just doing their job in public? In a tiny Iowa town that prides itself on neighborly values and community spirit, watching the mayor act like a thug over a simple policy question is about as far from small-town values as you can get.

What makes it even worse is the bizarre way Wermers behaved afterward. Rather than apologize or walk away, he stuck around with this weird, almost giddy expression, like he was proud of the stunt. He continued to passive-aggressively introduce himself to the journalist.

Public officials are supposed to welcome scrutiny, especially when their preferred candidate is out campaigning on issues that matter to farm families. The ironic part is that IA-02 Congressional candidate Lindsay James was born and raised in Portland, Oregon suburbs, not the cornfields. This could be why her radical left-wing campaign freaks out the second anyone tries to ask her an unscripted question.

Iowans deserve better from the people who hold office in their name, and this kind of conduct only raises more questions about the judgment of both the mayor and the campaign he’s so eager to protect. It wouldn’t be appropriate to single him out, as this form of sporadic behavior is quite common among these types.

“The City of Appleton, MN welcomes the reopening of the CoreCivic facility. The return of jobs and utility revenue from our community’s largest employer is a significant benefit to our residents and local economy, both of which have faced challenges since the facility closed sixteen years ago.”

A small Western Minnesota town is preparing for a major change. Appleton has about 1,400 residents. Now, a private prison company says it has a deal with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to house up to 1,600 detainees.
