3:31pm: Watching this strong storm just south of Newton. This storm is showing signs of strengthening. currently dime sized hail and gusty winds are the primary risks at this time. This storm is moving southeast down Highway 16. The storm could become severe in the next half hour

The rain this past week really helped get water into the ground. Now we are getting ready to enter into another dry period.

This map is the next eight days of precipitation on the National blend of models. Early June sun angle will work on transpiration of moisture this week from the ground.

We are going to begin the month of June on a cooler-than-normal temperature regime. However, that may change toward the end of the forecast period.

Good Sunday morning,

Cooler and less humid air in place today and that’s going to result in very comfortable temperatures (70’s) for the final day of May.

Sunshine will slowly increase through the afternoon.

As more rain moves into the area tonight (mainly light with isolated pockets of heavy rain across the foothills) the flash flood risk will go up slightly across the mountain areas. I would highlight the area along the NC/TN border as seeing the highest risk.
