This video offers a glimpse into a family whose adult child lives with developmental disabilities, and the support they receive from their direct support professional (DSP), Missy. The role of our DSPs is vital. Not only do they provide compassionate care for those we serve, but they are a lifeline, an advocate, and extended family. Throughout September, we will feature DSPs from many of our partner providers to recognize their hard work and show our appreciation for all they do!

A big shoutout to Elgin Local Schools for investing in an all-inclusive playground! This new playground helps create opportunities for students of all abilities to enjoy recess and outdoor play together. We were thrilled to see Riley and Alex having fun on the new equipment and experiencing all the playground has to offer. Thank you, Elgin Schools, for helping build a more inclusive community.

It’s Back to School Week! We are thankful for the educational partnerships that help us support our school-age population (over 350 school-age children served at MCBDD). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Health Interview Survey, roughly one in six (about 17%) of children ages 3 through 17 years have one or more developmental disabilities. Developmental disabilities are a group of conditions resulting from challenges in physical, learning, language, and/or behavioral areas. These conditions begin during the developmental period, may impact day-to-day functioning, and usually last throughout a person’s lifetime. It takes a community - and we have a great one! Thank you, schools, educators, parents, and caregivers!
