The first few days of preschool are officially underway! Our littlest learners have been busy settling into routines, learning classroom expectations, and making new friends during play time.

The scientists in 2T have been hard at work investigating rocks! 🔍 Already they’ve explored rocks from a volcano 🌋 as well as river rocks. These scientists are discussing ways to organize and sort their rocks by various properties (color, size, shape, texture). Today they combed the playground for rocks and washed them to begin a class rock collection. Need a little help finding rocks in your yard? 🪨 Need some help organizing your laundry this weekend? 🧺 Hire a second grade expert! 😉

Second graders are learning new math centers as a part of our new math curriculum. This game is called. “How close?” Students add three numbers together to see who gets closer to 20 without going over!

In CAPS this week kindergartens read “The Color Monster” to explore their emotions through a hands-on partner activity. Here is how our learners practiced naming their feelings:
1) think-pair-share: Mrs. Zaruba explained each feeling and the color it matched with. Then students paired up and shared times they felt those feelings.
2) Fine motor practice: Once they finished sharing “I feel when…”, they got to put the matching bead on their pipe cleaner!

We turned our pipe cleaners into a fidget or a bracelet!

We love seeing our students build empathy, practice active listening, and growing their emotional vocabulary!

Our first graders are diving into fables during their first CKLA Amplify Knowledge unit! Today, students read “The Maid and the Milk Pail” while building important reading skills such as listening comprehension and vocabulary.

One of today’s vocabulary words was “balanced,” so students in 1H decided to put their learning into action—literally! They had fun challenging themselves to balance a pail on their heads.

We love seeing students make meaningful connections between the stories they read and the world around them!

We loved having our halls, classrooms, and the playground filled with footsteps and voices again! It has been a week filled with community building, setting expectations and routines, playing, learning, problem-solving, and so much more! It has been a great start to the 2026-2027 school year! Rest up everyone, and see you next week (you too preschoolers)!

What a fun first week!

Our students have been busy getting to know their new teachers, learning classroom routines, and making new friends. Today, students in 1H played “Find a Friend”—a fun way to practice using each other’s names while discovering a little more about their classmates.

We love seeing friendships begin to grow and our classrooms come to life! 📚😊
