Cook County Issues Local Disaster Proclamation Following July 27 Storms!!! The last day is Monday, August 10 2026.

Mayor Roger A. Agpawa and City Council is informing residents that Cook County issued a Local Disaster Proclamation on July 30, 2026, following the severe weather that impacted communities throughout the region on July 27, 2026.

The storm system brought multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms, torrential rainfall, localized flash flooding, downed trees and power lines, structural damage, transportation disruptions, and widespread utility outages. The National Weather Service also confirmed tornado activity in several south suburban communities.

The disaster proclamation allows Cook County to:

🚨 Activate and strengthen emergency response operations

🤝 Coordinate County and municipal recovery resources

🛠️ Access additional equipment, personnel, and assistance

🏠 Support ongoing damage assessments

🛡️ Help prevent further damage and protect public safety

💰 Support a possible request for federal disaster assistance if damage assessments determine that recovery needs exceed available state and local resources.

The Cook County Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security continues to coordinate response and recovery efforts while providing technical assistance to affected municipalities, including the City of Markham.

The City of Markham encourages all residents and businesses that experienced storm-related damage to document and report it through the Cook County Resident Storm Damage Survey:

https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/94f86f1d4d0f404c9c65afc70975cde3

Accurate reporting helps document the full impact of the storm and may support future requests for disaster assistance. Completing the survey does not guarantee financial assistance, but it is an important step in helping local, county, state, and federal agencies assess the extent of the damage.

The City of Markham remains committed to working with Cook County and our emergency management partners to support recovery efforts and protect the safety of our residents. Please continue to follow the City of Markham's official communication channels for updates and additional recovery information.

Please make sure all Markham residents fill out the Cook County Resident Storm Damage Survey!!!!

🛠️ Acceder a equipos, personal y asistencia adicionales.

https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/94f86f1d4d0f404c9c65afc70975cde3
