***NOTICE FROM MARKHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT***
🚫🎆 FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL IN THE CITY OF MARKHAM 🎆🚫
As Independence Day approaches, the City of Markham reminds all residents and visitors that fireworks are prohibited within city limits.
📖 Markham City ORD. § 94.31
"It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to knowingly possess, sell, keep, store, manufacture, give away, discharge, set off or detonate any fireworks within the City of Markham."
⚠️ ZERO TOLERANCE ENFORCEMENT ⚠️
Pursuant to City Code § 94.34(C), any person, firm, or corporation found in violation may be fined not less than $250 and not more than $1,000 for each offense.
Each day a violation continues constitutes a separate offense and may result in additional fines.
Fireworks can cause:
🔥 Fires and property damage
🚑 Serious injuries
🐾 Stress and harm to pets
*Distress to veterans and others sensitive to loud explosions
🏘️ Disruptions to neighborhoods and residents
The Markham Police Department will actively enforce all fireworks ordinances throughout the holiday period.

You may spot some MPD Officers while you’re driving down 159th St on the roof of Dunkin’ with donuts and coffee in hand😎 Please feel free to join us on Friday, May 15th from 5am-12pm at Dunkin’ located at 3068 W 159th St for Cop on Top ! Officers look forward to speaking with members of the community and raising awareness for Special Olympics ! There will be merchandise on sale and all proceeds will go towards the Special Olympics. The Markham Police Department would like to give a special thanks to Sergeant Anderl, Officer Braasch, Officer Simmons, and Officer Kay for their excellent service during a critical incident. Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 16400BLK of Plymouth Ave on March 12, 2025 in regards to a resident being brutally attacked by a dog. Officers arrived on scene to find a Cane Corso actively biting and tearing at both hands of the 80-year-old male victim. Sergeant Anderl took control of the scene reacting quickly and efficiently in subduing the dog from the victim for Officers Braasch, Kay, and Simmons to render aid to the victim who was severely injured suffering from arterial bleeds until EMS personnel arrived on scene. The Markham Police Department presented Sergeant Anderl, Officer Braasch, Officer Kay, and Officer Simmons with a Life Saving Award for their outstanding response to this incident.

The Markham Police Department would like to recognize Detective Crement for his outstanding work and tireless effort he puts into the investigations division. Detective Crement was presented with an award for apprehending a suspect who gave a full confession to the Murder of a 17-year-old female that occurred on October 31, 2021. Detective Crement was handed this case in January 2025 and put a tremendous amount of effort into bringing justice to the victim and her family. An arrest warrant was issued for the offender in December 2025 and the subject was placed into custody on April 21, 2026. Again, The Markham Police Department would like to thank Detective Crement for his outstanding work.
