Congratulations to our brother Eagle Scout Martin Von Grossman of the Township of Ocean who, after completion of ten years as Commander of the American Commandery of the Equestrian, Secular and Chapterial Order of Saint Joachim, relinquished command to his successor. The Order of St. Joachim is an order of chivalry founded in 1755 to promote religious tolerance in Europe.

To all of our Eagles here in the Monmouth Council and around the globe, HAPPY NATIONAL EAGLE SCOUT DAY! In recognition of the 100th Anniversary of the FIRST Eagle Scout Board of Review being granted to Arthur Eldred in 1912, this date was designated for celebrating America's Eagle Scouts. in 2012, the Monmouth Chapter travelled to the Theodore Roosevelt Council on Long Island to march in the 100th Anniversary Parade and to celebrate the start of a long and proud line of Eagles. Included in that contingent was then Northeast Region BSA President Bob Smith and, of course, National Distinguished Eagle Scout and local gadfly Charles Spitz.

I am so excited to announce that one of our MCBSA Alumni/Eagle Scouts who has distinguished himself and our membership through his leadership in creating a new Scouting Affinity Group at a regional college. Kevin Krippa Jr. (better by his FSR Camp Staff Name "Speedbump") was proud to announce that the newly-created "York College of Pennsylvania Scouting Association" was formally approved by the college powers that be just last evening by an overwhelming majority. Kevin will be serving as the association's founding vice president.

The association, consisting primarily of alumni from the BSA and other nationally-known youth organizations is open to all genders and students, regardless of their prior affiliation (or lack thereof) with these groups. The National Eagle Scout & Alumni Associations of the Monmouth Council, BSA was honored to have assisted, if even in a very small way, with this continued strengthening of the ties of brotherhood in Scouting throughout our nation.

Congratulations, Speedbump! Thank you for honoring all of us by personifying the finest traditions of the Eagle Scouts of America!

On my honor, I will do my best to make my training an example,
and make my rank and influence strongly count
for better scouting and for better citizenship,
in my troop, in my community, and in my contact with other people,
regardless of race, color, or creed.
TO THIS, I PLEDGE MY SACRED HONOR.

We encourage our fellow alumni and Eagles in colleges across America to follow Kevin's example. Ask us for help getting started!

If you are reading this piece, there’s a very good chance that you are ineligible to become a member of Scouts BSA, but that does not mean that you should not support it and its endeavors. It has not been hard to notice that scouting has seen a stark decline in enrollment over the past...

So, now that we have your attention, I have a question for you. What activities, initiatives, or events would you all like to see our group tackle this year? Please keep in mind, you are already a member—there are no application forms, no dues, no requirements for participation or service (though you are welcome to volunteer for something). Our purpose is to keep our Alumni and Eagles in touch and engaged with the ongoing Scouting Mission of the Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Please feel free to brainstorm some ideas below. The sky is the limit!

*** URGENT NEED FOR HELP ***

Quail Hill Scout Res. was hit "worse than SANDY" this morning including severe damage to our brand new comfort station. With "many hundreds" of trees down and tens of thousands of limbs and small branches strewn everywhere, we need as much manpower as possible to report to camp at 7 pm tonight or during the day tomorrow to try to stabilize the camp in hope of being able to salvage an already fragile Summer Camp Season.

Any able bodied adult willing to help move branches and limbs will be welcomed. Those with formal training in the use of chainsaws are also invited. Please reply ONLY if you can meet us at the Lavalley Rd, Manalapan Camp to help.

Financial contributions for repairs and supplies are also appreciated at https://www.monmouthbsa.org/donate

The Camps and Properties of Monmouth Council are the gem of our Scouting Community. The building of new and exciting program areas at our Camps and the maintenance of them are vital to the experience our Scouts have. The Dean of Monmouth Council's Eagle Scout Roster has died. Help us remember the service of our brother Elmer Potter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elmer Potter. Elmer, age 91, was an Eagle Scout from the Class of 1940 and the oldest living Eagle Scout in Monmouth Council. On his 12th birthday, July 14, 1938, he presented two quarters (50 cents) to cover the annual fee for the Boy Scouts of America and became a Boy Scout. Less than two years later before his 14th birthday, he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout on September 6, 1940. Most recently, Elmer was involved with Troop 47 in Leonardo. He always proudly represented the Masons at various Eagle Court of Honors throughout the years. Elmer served as a Boy Scouts of America District 1 Committee Member, Chairman of District 1 Eagle Board of Review, and Veterans of Foreign Wars member at Post 226.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27 from 4-8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. in Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Navesink Masonic Lodge No. 9, 152 Maple Ave., Red Bank, NJ 07701; Boy Scouts of America, 705 Ginesi Dr., Morganville, NJ 07751 or to the VFW Post #2226, 212 Norwood Ave., Oakhurst, NJ 07755. Letters of condolence may be sent through the web at www.damianofuneralhome.com.

NESA Brothers Brian J Valentino and Michael Celano at the Monmouth County Fire Academy last week, helping to teach the next generation of firefighters at the county's Junior Firefighter Academy. Many of the young firefighter cadets are also members of the Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America's various Exploring programs.

Mike and I serve on the National Eagle Scout & Alumni Associations of the Monmouth Council, BSA Executive Committee and have been instrumental in building the highly-successful "Alumni Weekend" at Forestburg Scout Reservation and other NESA/Alumni events throughout Central New Jersey over the past decade.

Special note: Mike's daughter Marissa and Brian's son Joe were both attendees at the very first Alumni Weekend as little kids and are now both Jr. Firefighters/Explorers. Joey is also working on his Eagle Scout project as we speak--a recruitment drive for new volunteer firefighters.
