So, now that we have your attention, I have a question for you. What activities, initiatives, or events would you all like to see our group tackle this year? Please keep in mind, you are already a member—there are no application forms, no dues, no requirements for participation or service (though you are welcome to volunteer for something). Our purpose is to keep our Alumni and Eagles in touch and engaged with the ongoing Scouting Mission of the Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Please feel free to brainstorm some ideas below. The sky is the limit!

Congratulations brother Eagle Scout Nicholas Trerotola and welcome to the nest!

Be The One Spotlight:
We would like to thank Nicholas Trerotola aspiring Eagle Scout- Troop 180 for his incredible work and donation of prepared ready to go Birthday Boxes, chips, and soda. Nicholas was assisted by Ryan Chandler, who may use what he learned under Nicholas' tutelage for his own Eagle Scout project someday.

Nicholas told us, "I especially liked the project because it was something that would directly help other people"
Yes, it will! One by One! What a difference these will make! for so many people!

We are incredibly proud of these two young men and thankful that Nicholas chose Open Door for this project.

*** URGENT NEED FOR HELP ***

Quail Hill Scout Res. was hit "worse than SANDY" this morning including severe damage to our brand new comfort station. With "many hundreds" of trees down and tens of thousands of limbs and small branches strewn everywhere, we need as much manpower as possible to report to camp at 7 pm tonight or during the day tomorrow to try to stabilize the camp in hope of being able to salvage an already fragile Summer Camp Season.

Any able bodied adult willing to help move branches and limbs will be welcomed. Those with formal training in the use of chainsaws are also invited. Please reply ONLY if you can meet us at the Lavalley Rd, Manalapan Camp to help.

Financial contributions for repairs and supplies are also appreciated at https://www.monmouthbsa.org/donate

The Camps and Properties of Monmouth Council are the gem of our Scouting Community. The building of new and exciting program areas at our Camps and the maintenance of them are vital to the experience our Scouts have. The Dean of Monmouth Council's Eagle Scout Roster has died. Help us remember the service of our brother Elmer Potter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elmer Potter. Elmer, age 91, was an Eagle Scout from the Class of 1940 and the oldest living Eagle Scout in Monmouth Council. On his 12th birthday, July 14, 1938, he presented two quarters (50 cents) to cover the annual fee for the Boy Scouts of America and became a Boy Scout. Less than two years later before his 14th birthday, he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout on September 6, 1940. Most recently, Elmer was involved with Troop 47 in Leonardo. He always proudly represented the Masons at various Eagle Court of Honors throughout the years. Elmer served as a Boy Scouts of America District 1 Committee Member, Chairman of District 1 Eagle Board of Review, and Veterans of Foreign Wars member at Post 226.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27 from 4-8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. in Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Navesink Masonic Lodge No. 9, 152 Maple Ave., Red Bank, NJ 07701; Boy Scouts of America, 705 Ginesi Dr., Morganville, NJ 07751 or to the VFW Post #2226, 212 Norwood Ave., Oakhurst, NJ 07755. Letters of condolence may be sent through the web at www.damianofuneralhome.com.

Congratulations to our fellow Eagle Scout and Alumnus The Honorable Robert M. Gates, PhD. on being named the 2017 National Distinguished Alumnus of the BSA.

2017 National Alumnus of the Year

Distinguished Eagle Scout Dr. Robert M. Gates and past president of both the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) and the Boy Scouts of America is hereby bestowed the honor of National Alumnus of the Year.

Wayne Brock, former Chief Scout Executive, once stated “As one of our nation’s most respected public servants and a proven leader of the highest caliber, Dr. Gates is a shining example of how our organization positions individuals for success, and he will be a great ambassador for sharing the Scouting story throughout the country.”

Dr. Gates had no contact with Scouting for several years after completing his term as NESA president. When asked why he left Scouting, he simply stated “...that we never invited him to come back.” Those words left a significant impression on the organization and hence forth the Scouting Alumni Association, now known as the Scouting Alumni & Friends, concept was born – striving to keep in contact with past Scouts and Scouters of every age.

Congratulations, Dr. Gates on the recognition as the 2017 National Alumnus of the Year for the Boy Scouts of America.

Eagle Scouts know the honor that comes with dedicating a career to the service of our fellow citizens. Today we also mourn the loss of one of our own:: Eagle Scout Justin Martin, a law enforcement officer from Urbandale, Iowa who was killed in the line of duty yesterday.

Eagle Scout & Police Officer, Justin Martin, will be missed.

“We were very fortunate to hire a good young man,” said Urbandale Police Chief Ross McCarty.
