๐ MEET OUR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS
With the new school year getting underway, we wanted to introduce the officers serving as School Resource Officers in Marlborough this year.
๐ซ Officer Basquiat โ Marlborough High School
Officer Basquiat has been with the Marlborough Police Department for 26 years and is entering his fifth year as the SRO at Marlborough High School. He also serves as a staff instructor at the MPTC Marlborough Police Academy, helping train new police officers.
๐ซ Officer Edmonds โ Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School
Officer Edmonds has been with the department for six years and has served as the SRO at Assabet for the past three years. During that time, he has become a familiar face to students and staff throughout the school.
๐ซ Officer A. Atwood โ Whitcomb Middle School & Elementary Schools
Officer A. Atwood is our newest SRO and will be assigned to Whitcomb Middle School and the elementary schools throughout the city. Before becoming a police officer, she worked as a dispatcher for the Marlborough Police Department. She has been a police officer for just under two years.
๐ฎ What does an SRO do?
Being an SRO is about much more than having a police officer in a school. Their most important responsibility is keeping our students and staff safe, but much of their work happens during the normal school day.
Our SROs get to know students, attend school events, work with teachers and administrators, help families and address problems before they become bigger ones.
Having officers in our schools also gives students the opportunity to get to know them outside of an emergency or call for service. Sometimes it's simply a conversation in the hallway. Other times, it's a student coming to them because they need help.
Those everyday interactions build relationships and trust.
Our SROs are police officers and protectors, but they are also mentors, resources and members of the school community.
We wish Officer Basquiat, Officer Edmonds and Officer A. Atwood, along with all of our students and school staff, a safe and successful school year! ๐
