***Update- suspect identified and arrested.

**See new Facebook post regarding pics of suspect**

This morning, at approximately 6:20am, a 40 year-old woman reported that as she was walking on the Assabet River Rail Trail near the intersection of Fitchburg Street and Sasseville Way, she was assaulted by a male individual who approached her from behind. The suspect, who she described as a White male, between 30-40 years old, with brown hair, blue eyes and a facial piercing, was wearing loose-fitting brown cargo shorts and a blue flannel shirt. The suspect grabbed her around the neck and pushed her onto the ground towards the shoulder of the trail. The victim screamed loudly and fought to defend herself as the suspect tried to pull off some of her clothing. The victim was able to break free from the suspect who then turned and ran in the opposite direction towards the Fitchburg Street intersection. The victim, however, was able to use her cellphone to videorecord the suspect as he ran from the scene- the video shows that he may have a tattoo or marking on the upper area of his left calf. The victim suffered visible and minor injuries to her mouth and leg because of this incident.

At this time, the Marlborough Police Department is seeking information from anyone who may have been walking on the Assabet River Rail Trail in this area earlier this morning or who may recognize the individual seen in the video. Due to the seriousness of the incident, the department is seeking to identify and locate this individual. Any persons with information may contact the Marlborough Police Department Investigations Unit, specifically Det. Scott DeCiero, at (508) 485-1212 x 36953. All callers may remain anonymous and any assistance is greatly appreciated.
