This morning Marlborough NH Fire Department was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident involving a school bus and a pick-up truck, with possible entrapment. First units on the scene reported a school bus with a number of students and a pick-up truck, both with substantial damage. A level 2 Mass Casualty Incident was declared, bringing in multiple ambulances and other resources from throughout the system.
Although sadly there was one fatality, the incident had the potential for a much more serious and difficult outcome. The bus driver suffered potentially serious but non-life threatening injuries. And all of the students were transported to Cheshire Hospital, some with minor injuries, where they were reunited with their parents.
MFD was assisted on the scene by Keene Fire Department and SWNHFMA MAC-1. Dispatched ambulances include Keene Fire, Cheshire County EMS, Rescue Inc, Peterborough Fire, Jaffrey Ambulance, Walpole Ambulance, Wi******er Ambulance, Golden Cross Ambulance, and Winchendon Fire. Marlborough Police were assisted by NH State Police and Cheshire County Sheriffโs Dept.
I want to thank everyone who provided assistance at this call. It was through the cooperative effort by all involved departments and agencies that this incident had as successful a resolution as possible.
