As a parent, citizen, veteran and candidate for school board, I am very proud of these kids for standing up and letting their voices be heard. I am a firm believer in it is better to stand for what you believe in than to stand for nothing. Even if you dont fully agree with what someone is standing for, hear them out then make your decisions. If the students choose to walk out for 15 minutes to get their point across we should be supportive as obviously they realize there are major issues. I've had teachers change in middle of a semester and it really is stressful to figure out what a new teacher demands. Some of these kids are on their second or even third teacher already this year. They start the year with one teacher, that teacher quits then they learn from a computer for a couple weeks and that is replaced by another temporary teacher. Now tell me that isnt stressful. For any of you adults criticizing this, imagine if you had 3 different bosses, all completely different at work in a matter of a few months. Tell me that wouldn't be stressful and you wouldn't be looking for something to change as obviously something isnt right to have 3 different bosses in that amount of time. Its the same thing for our kids. Let's support them as they try to bring the situation to light. I just ask that it is done peacefully. If all the students walk outside and hold hands forming a chain around the school chanting "we need a voice" or "we need change" or something like that for 15 minutes then peacefully go back to class I will be extremely proud of these kids. Something needs to change and unfortunately this dictatorship is only punishing the students.
