# # Falls County Sheriff's Office Warns Public of Fraudulent Phone Calls
The Falls County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about an ongoing telephone scam involving individuals falsely claiming to be employees or deputies with the Sheriff's Office.
Several citizens have reported receiving phone calls from someone identifying themselves as a member of the Falls County Sheriff's Office. The caller falsely claims the recipient has outstanding warrants, missed jury duty, or failed to comply with a court order and demands immediate payment to avoid arrest.
**This is a scam.**
The Falls County Sheriff's Office **will never**:
* Call you demanding immediate payment to resolve an arrest warrant.
* Request payment by gift cards, prepaid debit cards, cryptocurrency, Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, or wire transfer.
* Threaten immediate arrest if payment is not made over the phone.
* Instruct you to remain on the phone while making a payment.
Scammers often use "spoofing" technology that makes the caller ID appear to be the Falls County Sheriff's Office or another legitimate government agency. Do not rely on caller ID alone to verify the caller's identity.
If you receive one of these calls:
* Hang up immediately.
* Do not provide personal or financial information.
* Do not send money.
* If you have questions about the legitimacy of a warrant or court matter, contact the Falls County Sheriff's Office using our publicly listed non-emergency telephone number.
* If you have already provided money or personal information, immediately contact your financial institution and report the incident to your local law enforcement agency.
The Falls County Sheriff's Office is actively working to educate the public about these fraudulent schemes. We encourage everyone to share this warning with family members, friends, and elderly relatives, who are frequently targeted by these scams.
If you receive one of these fraudulent calls, please report it to the Falls County Sheriff's Office. Information such as the telephone number used by the caller, the date and time of the call, and any details provided by the scammer may assist investigators.
**Remember:** If someone calls demanding immediate payment to avoid arrest, it is almost certainly a scam. Hang up and verify the information by contacting the Falls County Sheriff's Office directly.
