Thank you to all of the men and women who have and continue to serve our great country!
Tuesday, May 26th, a few of our fire departments members had the honor to be a part of the return of 1 of many Greater Peoria Honor Flights.
On this particular flight was retired fire Chief Dave Amundson. Dave joined the Marquette Heights Fire Department in 1979 and retired as Fire Chief in 2015 which he held for 5 years. In his 36 years on the department he held the positions of Chief, Ass’t Chief, Captain, Rescue Lt, and Fire Inspector.
Dave was drafted into the ARMY in 1969. He completed basic training in Fort Bennington GA and AIT in Fort Belboir. He was sent to Vietnam in May of 1970 and returned in April 1971. He turned 21 in Vietnam. Dave was an 02 and Acetylene Specialist. His main duty was to transport (drove a truck) these chemicals.
Dave served 10 total years on the Marquette Heights City Council. He retired from CAT in 2008 with 35 years. Dave owned his own business with his wife, Kathy, from 2005 to 2018 and named it Deb’s Wheels after their late daughter. It was a wheelchair and scooter repair business.
Thank you Dave for your years of service!
