The 3rd Annual Smoky Valley Spelling Bee took place on July 17th at the Smoky Valley Distillery. Friends and family cheered on the nine spellers who got up on the stage to test their spelling skills. Hayley Samford was the emcee for the event and Matt Graham and Mary Kay Lindh were the judges. The three finalists were: Gayle Nelson 3rd, Jackie Larson 2nd and Marcene Kempke 1st. These finalists will go on to compete in the McPherson County Spelling Bee which will be held on Friday, August 15th from 6:00-7:30 at the Smoky Valley Distillery. Phil Walters will be performing from 7:30-9:00 following the spelling bee.
