I would like to thank the voters of Marquette County for their continued trust in me as Drain Commissioner, and for the support I received in the August 4th primary.
I especially would like to thank the Marquette/Alger County Labor Council who endorsed me once again as the best candidate for the position of Marquette County Drain Commissioner. I am greatful and humbled by their recognition of me and my experience, dedication and knowledge as it relates to this important position. They have endorsed me every time I have run for re-election to this position, and I appreciate their continuing support.
I also want to thank the people who allowed us to use their yards and property as a place to post our signs. We will be picking our signs up over the next few days, so you can just leave them in your yard, or place them someplace where we can see them to pick them up. If you have any questions, feel free to message me or my campaign treasurer, Sharon Farrell, or call us at 250-3032, or 458-9118.
I want the voters of Marquette to know exactly what the job of Drain Commissioner entails, as there seems to be some confusion, so I will try to keep my page better updated with articles and reports about what the MCDC actually does.
This state mandated elected position requires a combination of many skills and bodies of knowledge. I have a degree in Land Use Planning from NMU, as well as having taken continuing education classes from University of Wisconsin-Madison in Storm Water Management. This type of education and training is vital do the job of drain commissioner well. Wastewater Treatment is generally not a large component of the Drain Commissioner position.
I am a lifelong resident of Marquette and was the owner of a small business in town for several years (MAPS North). My family lives here, and I have a long record of serving the citizens of Marquette County.
I have a proven track record of fiscal responsibility with the Marquette County Drain Commissioner budget, and have long-term relationships with the engineers and contractors and departments in the county that help me do the job. I have a good working knowledge of the statutes that pertain to the Marquette County Drain Commissioner. I am also very knowledgeable about the governmental permitting process, and have helped many people thru that process over the years.
I am very responsive to phone calls and questions, and am happy to help people come up with solutions to drainage issues, even if those issues are outside the scope of my job responsibilities. I have never asked for extra compensation for meeting with constituents in the evenings or on weekends in response to phone calls. You can reach me with your concerns about storm water issues, the permitting process, or any other questions at 906.458.9118, or email me at
[email protected], or drop me a note to 2133 Montgomery St., Marquette, MI 49855.
Thank you again for your continued support. I am greatful and humbled.

Remember to vote in the General Election on November 3!

Thank you.

On this beautiful weekend before the election, I know a lot of people are outside getting the last of their raking done.
So I want to ask you all a question from the Drain Comissioner's point of view.

"Are you about to blow it, and not even know it?"

When leaves are blown or raked into the storm drain on your street, they can clog it, and the result can cause flooding on your street after a heavy rain.
Never rake or blow leaves into streets, ditches, marshes or storm drains. When wet, they form a wet mat, and block the drainage that streets, storm drains, ditches, settling ponds, and marsh-like areas are designed to provide.

Check with your locality to find out how leaves will be collected (bagging, curbside leaf vacuuming, etc.). Only place leaves and other yard debris at the curb on the designated pickup day.

Instead of raking, mow over your leaves with your mulching mower to create finely chopped mulch and then leave them in place. You'll love how easy it is and your lawn will love the mulch!

Or put your fallen leaves into your compost bin. Come spring, your garden will be thankful for the fertile soil.

So now you know how not to blow it this fall.
