Yesterday’s approval of $50 million for the Copperwood Mine project is a major win for the Upper Peninsula.

This investment will help bring hundreds of good-paying jobs to the U.P., strengthen local businesses, and create new opportunities for families across our region. For too long, our communities have watched jobs disappear and young people leave in search of opportunity. Copperwood gives us a chance to change that.

I’m proud to stand with local workers, community leaders, and residents who fought to move this project forward and invest in the future of the U.P.

The men and women working in our correctional facilities deserve a safe, well-run work environment. I sponsored this legislation to strengthen oversight of the Department of Corrections, improve accountability, and give corrections employees a stronger voice when raising concerns.

Today, my House Bill 5921 passed the House with bipartisan support!

This legislation strengthens the role of the Legislative Corrections Ombudsman by increasing transparency, accountability, and communication within our corrections system.

I’ve had the opportunity to speak with corrections officers, their families, and families of incarcerated individuals. The concerns and stories I’ve heard are deeply troubling, and they make it clear that we need greater accountability within our corrections system.

House Bill 5921 will help ensure complaints are taken seriously, responses are timely, and the Ombudsman’s office operates with greater transparency and accountability. It also protects individuals who file complaints from retaliation, ensuring people can raise concerns without fear of being punished for speaking up.

Homeownership should be within reach for hardworking Michigan families. 🏠

That’s why I sponsored House Bill 6074, to help address barriers to homeownership and make sure more Michiganders have a fair shot at owning a home.

🍎 Our schools are at the heart of our communities, and making sure UP students have the opportunity to succeed means making sure their classrooms have the resources they need.

I’ll continue working to make sure our local schools have the support they need to serve the students who call the UP home.

I’m excited to see this new fire truck serving our community, and honored to have secured funding in last year’s state budget to help make this possible.

Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day to keep our families and communities safe. Ensuring they have modern, reliable equipment is one of the best investments we can make.

I’m proud to have fought for this funding and to deliver resources that strengthen public safety here in the U.P. Congratulations to the department, and thank you to all of our firefighters for your continued dedication and service! 🚒🇺🇸

The Fiscal Year 2027 state budget includes critical investments that will strengthen our communities, improve local infrastructure, and support families across the U.P., including:

💧 $682,000 for Baraga flood recovery
🌳 $500,000 for the Gluski Park Recreation Area
🤝 $35,000 for United Way of Marquette’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program
🚧 $1 million for the Waucedah Township Road Improvement Project

I’m proud to have fought to secure these investments and will continue fighting to bring resources back to the Upper Peninsula and deliver for the people I represent.
