The past 3 days FETA-Louisiana Fire and Emergency Training Academy instructors have been teaching firefighters from Marrero Ragusa Vol. Fire Co. #3, Marrero Harvey Volunteer Fire Company #1, and Marrero Estelle Fire Department fire behavior and recognizing flashover conditions. Thank you to the instructors for teaching our personnel and thank you Chief Bryan J Adams for supporting the 8th District and Westbank Fire Services.

Shortly after midnight the Marrero Ragusa Vol. Fire Co. #3 was dispatched to a structure fire in the 6500 Block of 4th Street. The first arriving unit advised there was a working fire in a large commercial structure. The fire was brought under control quickly and firefighters remained on scene for two hours to fully extinguish and investigate the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.

This past week members of Marrero Ragusa Vol. Fire Co. #3, Marrero Harvey Volunteer Fire Company #1, and Marrero Estelle Fire Department have been participating in a Rope Rescue certification course taught by FETA-Louisiana Fire and Emergency Training Academy. Tomorrow is the final day of class where they will use the skills learned this week toward a practical evaluation.

The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF0 tornado touched down in Marrero last night. The Marrero Ragusa Vol. Fire Co. #3 responded to the area and surveyed the damage. Thankfully no residents of our response area were injured. Damage included destroyed sheds and some homes sustained roof damage.

Week 3 of the 8th Fire Protection Districts Apparatus Driver/Operator Pumper/Mobile Water Supply/Aerial

After a couple weeks of classroom instruction and hands on training, all students had a final day of practicing the skills they’ve learned before they start practical evaluations tomorrow and Wednesday where they will each complete 18 different skills.

The final total of students are:

24 in Driver/Operator Pumper
27 in Driver/Operator Aerial
32 in Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply

Good luck to all the students and thank you to all the departments that trusted us with teaching your personnel.
