Bailey Mountain Preserve An online resource for opportunities to hike, to enjoy, or to stay informed of ways to contribute to the Bailey Mountain preservation project of Mars Hill, NC.

The Bailey Mountain Preserve consists of adjoining properties under preservation easement available to the public to visit on foot. The Preserve encompasses over 250 acres, including much of the southern slope of the mountain, including the east of Connor Ridge down to Forest St, the “Smith Farm,” and to the west of Connor Ridge the headwaters of White Oak Branch and Hamp Gap. Bailey Mountain is t

he highest peak visible from the Town of Mars Hill, and Bailey figures prominently in the history of the Town and Mars Hill University. The preserve offers six contiguous miles of hiking trails for the responsible enjoyment of the public and is best accessed from the parking area and trailhead at 889 Forest St.

Happy Earth Day from Bailey Mountain!

Mars Hill University plant taxonomy classes are posting tree IDs, and ecology classes are planting seedlings with elementary students along the green trail. MHU Natural Sciences is also hosting a mushroom walk tomorrow Thurs April 23rd 5:30-6:30 as part of Earth Week.

And thanks to generous donors we’ve made our initial goal! but are continuing to publicly fundraise to purchase the West Farm property in the event projected grants are not awarded. Donations or pledges directly accepted online or by check to Richard L Hoffman Foundation PO box 490. Other fundraising events include a trail running challenge Sat May 2nd w/ Fiddlin' 5K "Walk/Run for the Arts" Road Race, tickets to the Appalachian Barn Alliance spring art gala May 22nd-23rd and the ongoing donated art sale Mars Landing Arts Center.

Volunteers with the Friends of Bailey Mountain are also tabling Reems Creek Nursery, Inc. Earth Weekend celebration this Saturday April 25 and Mars Hill First Fridays 5-8pm. Stop by and say Hi!

Happy Earth Day from Bailey Mountain!

Mars Hill University MHU Natural Sciences plant taxonomy classes are posting tree IDs, and ecology classes are planting seedlings with 6th & 7th graders along the green trail. MHU is also hosting a mushroom walk tomorrow Thurs April 23rd 5:30-6:30 as part of Earth Week.
