🚨 REMINDER FROM THE LYON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE 🚨

We are asking all drivers traveling through Cottonwood to PLEASE slow down when driving near daycare locations and areas where children may be present.

Children can move quickly and unexpectedly, especially during drop-off, pick-up, and outdoor play times. A few extra seconds and reduced speed can make all the difference in keeping our youngest community members safe.

Please stay alert, avoid distractions, and use extra caution in these areas.

Let’s work together to keep Cottonwood’s kids safe. 💙

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy every day and will never be forgotten.

This Memorial Day, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office asks our community to take a moment to reflect on the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

We also extend our gratitude to the families who carry their memory forward and to all who continue to serve.

Please join us in honoring our fallen heroes today and every day.

Today we said good-bye one of our own.

It is with deep sadness that we recognize the passing of Lyon County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher Bryan Arzdorf.

Bryan served Lyon County with dedication, professionalism, and compassion. Although his time as a dispatcher was only a couple years, Bryan was able to draw on his previous experience as a Marshall police officer, and brought a sense of calm in moments of crisis, providing guidance, reassurance, and critical support to both the public and first responders. His commitment to helping others did not go unnoticed, and his impact will be felt for years to come.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Bryan’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts as they navigate this loss.

Rest easy, Bryan. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Your Lyon County Sheriff's Office Family.

Effective yesterday, state law now requires drivers to stop at least 20 feet away from a school bus when its red lights are flashing, regardless of if the stop arm is extended.

This is for the safety of all. Do not risk getting a ticket or going to jail for the savings of a few seconds.

Also, do not be that person who keeps inching forward as you wait. You are not going to save any more time by moving forward 14.25"...give the kids time and room.
