Helicopter Safety & Landing Zone Training

Today, members of the Marshall Fire Department participated in helicopter safety and landing zone training hosted by the Langston Fire Department and conducted by Air Evac Lifeteam.

The training brought together personnel from Langston Fire Department, Marshall, Meridian Volunteer Fire Department, Orlando Volunteer Fire Department, and Sooner Fire Department for hands-on instruction focused on safely establishing and operating a helicopter landing zone.

Air Evac brought one of their helicopters to the training, giving firefighters the opportunity to learn directly around the aircraft and gain valuable experience with landing zone operations, aircraft safety, communication, and scene coordination.

Training alongside our neighboring departments and Air Evac helps ensure that when an incident requires an air medical response, our firefighters are prepared to establish a safe and effective landing zone for the crew and patient.

The Marshall Fire Department would like to thank Langston Fire Department for hosting and Air Evac Lifeteam for providing the training and aircraft. We appreciate the continued cooperation and commitment to training that helps keep our communities and first responders safer.

Effective immediately, Logan County is in a burn ban!!

Wednesday and Thursday kept our volunteers busy with multiple fire responses across our area and neighboring communities.

Wednesday, Marshall Fire Department assisted Crescent Fire with a hay field fire that resulted in approximately 28 hay bales being destroyed. Miller EMS was staged on scene as well to help with rehab.

Thursday afternoon, we responded to a side-by-side vehicle fire with assistance from Douglas Fire. Later that day, we were dispatched to another hay field fire where we worked alongside Orlando Fire and Mulhall Fire. That fire consumed approximately 20 hay bales before crews were able to bring it under control.

We would like to thank Crescent Volunteer Fire Department, Douglas Fire, Orlando Volunteer Fire Department, Mulhall Volunteer Fire Department, and Miller EMS for their teamwork and assistance. Mutual aid is an invaluable part of protecting our communities, and we’re grateful for the strong partnerships we share.

With the hot, dry conditions continuing, we encourage everyone to use extreme caution with equipment, welding, chains dragging behind trailers, discarded smoking materials, and any activity that could spark a fire. A single spark can quickly become a large grass or hay fire.

As always, thank you to our dedicated volunteer firefighters and to the community for your continued support. Stay safe and help us keep Marshall and our neighboring communities protected.

Prayers to his family and the Guymon Fire Department!

FIRE DEPARTMENT MEMBER KILLED: Heartbreaking news for the Guymon Fire Department… a house fire killed one of their EMTs early this morning.

49-year-old Steven Coen who lived in Goodwell was pulled from his burning house, but did not survive.

“Steven is a member of the Guymon Fire Department and is an active EMT on the department’s EMS Division,” said Guymon Fire Chief Grant Wadley. “This is a huge loss.” 💔

Steven was heavily involved in the EMS Division for Guymon for the past 10 years and was even scheduled to work EMS detail during this weekend’s Pioneer Days Rodeo as a First Responder. He also worked as an EMT in Ho**er, Oklahoma, covering calls to allow their members time off.

Details of the fire are being investigated by the Oklahoma Fire Marshal Office, Oklahoma Medical, Goodwell Police Department, and Goodwell Fire Department.
