The Harrison County Republican Assembly proudly adopted a resolution supporting the creation of a locally governed Groundwater Conservation District for East Texas.
We also want to commend the Harrison County Commissioners Court, Rep. Jay Dean, and Rep. Hefner , for taking the important step of supporting participation in this effort.
Water is one of East Texas’ greatest natural resources. Protecting it is about safeguarding our families, our farmers, our businesses, our property rights, and future generations. Local groundwater decisions belong in the hands of the people who live here, not outside interests with different priorities.
A locally governed Groundwater Conservation District provides transparency, public input, science based management, and local accountability while respecting private property rights. It helps ensure East Texas water remains available for the communities, agriculture, and businesses that depend on it.
Thank you to the Harrison County Commissioners Court for recognizing the importance of protecting East Texas water and for supporting local stewardship of this vital resource. I hope more counties across East Texas join this effort to preserve our water for generations to come.
