Madison County Schools hosted a special retirement reception on Thursday, May 21st to celebrate Superintendent Dr. Will Hoffman. The event took place at Madison Early College High School, bringing together staff, community members, and leadership to honor his years of dedicated service and leadership.
Thank you, Dr. Hoffman, for your unwavering commitment to our students, educators, and schools. We wish you the absolute best in your well-deserved retirement!

Dr. Hoffman commented, "I want to thank our Board of Education for your trust, support, and leadership over the years. Public education is rewarding work, but it's never easy work, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve this district. To my colleagues, principals, teachers, support staff, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, maintenance teams, and central office staff, thank you for the work you do for children. You are the people who change lives every single day.
To our community partners, higher education partner, county commissioners, law enforcement, emergency personnel, local organizations, churches, and businesses, thank you for believing in our schools and investing in our students. The schools are the heart of the community. And to the families and students of Madison County Schools: thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives. This work has always been about children, and I leave incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together. Above all, thank you to Carrie Lee, Camille, Maya and Ella. None of this happens without family. A Superintendent's family serves too. Their patience with long nights, phone calls, storms, budgets, emergencies and stress has been integral to any success I may have had.
I will always be thankful for my time here, for the friendships, the memories, and the privilege of serving a place and people that I love very much."

Madison County Schools will be closed for students on Monday, May 25, 2026 in observance of Memorial Day.

Arts ARE Education Resolution Approved by the MCS Board of Education

The arts are an essential part of a well-rounded education because they help us reach every child in meaningful and lasting ways. Through music, visual arts, theater, and dance, students learn to express their inner lives, emotions, experiences, and perspectives in healthy and creative ways. As we continue our work to educate the whole child, we must recognize that the arts are not an extra; they are a vital pathway for engagement, expression, and human connection for all students. In a place like Madison County, where our history is rich with music, craft, storytelling, and visual art, the arts are essential. They connect us to our past, help us understand the present, and inspire us to imagine a better future. In our schools, the arts cultivate critical thinking, confidence, and compassion. They give students a way to be seen and heard in ways that words alone sometimes cannot.

MCS Board of Education Approves Naming the Madison Wrestling Facility in honor of Coach John Clark.

On Monday, May 18, the Madison County Board of Education voted unanimously to name the Madison Wrestling Facility in honor of Coach John Clark. Dr. Hoffman said: "It is my honor to recommend that the wrestling facility be named in honor of Coach John Clark. For years, Coach Clark represented the very best of Madison County Schools and North Carolina high school athletics. He built a wrestling program defined not only by competitive excellence, but by character. Under his leadership, student-athletes learned that success is rooted in effort, perseverance, and unwavering sportsmanship.
Coach Clark never gave up on the young people he mentored and his impact extends far beyond wins and trophies. He saw potential where others saw obstacles, and he invested in his students both on and off the mat. Many of the successes his wrestlers achieved were made possible because he believed in them before they believed in themselves.
He truly honored Madison County and the great tradition of North Carolina high school athletics through decades of integrity, service, and an honest love for who he was coaching. Naming the wrestling facility in his honor would be a fitting and well-deserved recognition of a coach whose legacy will endure in the lives of countless student athletes."
