Beginning Tuesday, September 29, MMU will conduct a free chorine conversion that will coincide with annual fire hydrant flushing (which begins on Sunday, October 4). A “free chlorine conversion” occurs when a water system switches its disinfection process from combined chlorine to free chlorine. This is a routine and common practice that assists with maintaining a healthy water distribution system for MMU and water districts in the area that purchase water from MMU.

The conversion will last about 4 weeks, after which we will return to the combined chlorine disinfection process. During this time, your water may taste or smell differently. This is normal and does not affect the safety of your drinking water. If the water from your faucet appears cloudy, simply keep the water running for a few minutes and it should clear up. The fire hydrant flushing, which begins October 4, is scheduled to continue through October 8. Customers are urged not to wash delicate white fabrics or clothing that might become stained during a washing cycle while MMU crews are flushing hydrants.

MMU’s lobby and parking lot will close at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026 for the local homecoming parade. We expect to reopen between 3 and 3:30 p.m., depending on when the parade route clears.

Our parking lot exit is on the parade route and will be barricaded. Closing the lot during the parade will help keep pedestrians safe. Thank you for your understanding, and enjoy the parade!
