Marshall was the first city announced out of 10 other winners and 16 finalists to receive the All-America City Award at the All-America Awards Ceremony in Denver, Colorado in June. The award is presented each year by the National Civic League, a 120-year-old nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, to 10 cities in the U.S. This is the first time that Marshall has won the award since 1976. This is also

the second year in a row that Marshall has been nominated as one of the 16 finalists for the competition. Applicants were judged on four critical criteria; innovation, inclusiveness, civic engagement, and cross-sector collaboration. The application also had to fit the theme of this year's competition, "Supporting and Engaging Vulnerable Boys and Young Men." A delegation of Marshall community members, including students involved in the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Pines, attended the finalist competition in Denver and presented a 10-minute presentation on key aspects of the city's application that fit the criteria.
