Aluminum Cans, Steel Food Cans, Soup Cans, Tuna Cans, Aluminum Foil & Aluminum Pans, Beer/Wine Bottles, Glass Containers (that contained food or beverage), Jam Jars, Sauce Jars, Pickle Jars

Plastics: Recycle these plastic types only!
Berry Containers, Butter Tubs, Cooking Oil Bottles, Juice Containers, Milk Jugs, Yogurt Tubs, Water & Soda Bottles, Shampoo Bottles, Lotion & Hand-soap Bottles, Detergent Bottles, Condiment Bottles, Cool Whip Tubs, Sour Cream Tubs, Ice Cream Tubs, Peanut Butter Tubs & Jars, Cottage Cheese Tubs, etc.

Paper Products:
Brown Grocery Bags, Beer and Soda Cases, Cereal Boxes, Pasta boxes, Cake and Snack Boxes, Flattened, Cardboard, Catalogs, Magazines, Office/school paper (all colors), Junk Mail, Flyers, Newspaper and Inserts, Pizza Delivery Boxes, Broth Boxes, Drink Boxes, Juice Cartons, Milk Cartons, Toilet Paper & Paper Towel Tubes, Toothpaste Boxes, Empty Tissue Boxes, Cardboard Egg Cartons, Cardboard Medication Boxes

The purpose of a 911 Dispatcher is to answer emergency and non-emergency calls for police, ambulance, and fire and CAT services. Individual must have established the ability to work under pressure with strong communication and technical and computer skills. Pay range is $25.27 – $35.38 with two pay increases in the first year of employment, and full county benefits. Dispatchers work a rotating schedule of weekdays, weekends, holidays, as well as day & overnight shifts.
REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma, or GED, required; with six months experience preferred in security or law enforcement; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess, or obtain during probationary period, and state computer (CJIS/NCIC), NIMS courses (provided upon employment).

Adult Lyon County residents who have had a valid library card at least one month are eligible to check out kitchen equipment, hand tools, craft tools, and more from the Marshall Library.
Have gently used tools you no longer want or need? Donate them to the Tool Lending Library!

Memorial Day is Monday, may 25th. Curbside recycling will not be picked up on that day.
Monday through Thursday routes will be done Tuesday through Friday.

Styrofoam Recycling at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility-Marshall
ACCEPTED MATERIAL (EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE) Foam packaging material and coolers, etc.
Please remove all tape, labels and paper. Other accepted items are CLEAN and DRY Styrofoam egg cartons or cardboard egg cartons! These items are placed on our free, product exchange shelf and are free for residents to come and pick up including clean, Styrofoam coolers! Reuse Styrofoam coolers at your next summer party! Flexible Styrofoam, Styrofoam peanuts are not accepted. These items should be thrown away in your trash. Styrofoam of any kind is not allowed in curbside recycling carts or community recycling drop sites. Lyon County is accepting applications for the position of Conservation Technician. The purpose of this position is to provide technical assistance in planning and applying soil and water conservation practices. In addition, this position will assist in the administration of the county ditch systems and the Lyon County Zoning Ordinances. Minimum Requirements: A 2-year degree in Ag/Environmental Science and 3 years of work-related experience desired, with a 4-year degree in Agriculture/Environmental Science preferred. Must be willing to obtain MPCA Individual Sewage Treatment System Inspector Certification. The range of hourly pay is $28.35 – $39.68 with full county benefits. Lyon County is hiring for a Household Hazardous Waste summer help position, approximately 40 hours per week. Approximate start date of May 18, 2026 through August 21, 2026. This position is well suited to high school and college students who would like to work during the summer months. Minimum Requirements: 18 years of age, with a valid driver’s license.
