2026 Property Revaluation Notices Have Been Mailed

Residents should begin receiving their 2026 assessment notices in the coming days as part of the Village-wide property revaluation.

One of the most important things to understand is this: A higher assessment does NOT automatically mean your property taxes will increase by the same amount. The reassessment updates property values to reflect current market conditions and helps ensure all properties are assessed fairly and uniformly. While many properties saw significant increases in assessed value, the reassessment itself does not generate additional tax revenue for the Village.

Property taxes are based on both:
• The total tax levy approved by taxing jurisdictions, and
• Your property's share of the overall tax base.
Because the entire Village was reassessed, the tax rate (mill rate) will also change.

If you receive your assessment notice and have questions, we encourage you to review the Frequently Asked Questions section on the Village website before contacting the Village or the assessor.

Due to the anticipation of severe weather later today and into the evening, the village board room can be utilized as a storm shelter for village residents who do not have appropriate shelter. Use the main doors to village hall and proceed into the board room. The board room and lobby bathrooms are the only areas that are to be accessed. Stay safe everyone!

Village Hall will be closed tomorrow due to the winter storm. Some Village services will still be available, but staff will be working remotely to avoid travel in harsh conditions. If you need to connect with a certain department via phone or email, you can find that information by visiting https://www.marshall-wi.com

Emergency services will still be available to the community.

We're starting to think that rodent to the West isn’t a great meteorologist!

*EDIT: due to the weather, garbage collection has been moved to Tuesday.

The Marshall Fire Department occasionally receives phone calls from community members reporting something concerning or requesting fire or EMS services, only for us to ask them to hang up and dial 911 instead. We want to explain why this is important.

When you call 911, your call goes directly to the highly trained call takers and dispatchers at the Dane County Communications Center. They are trained to quickly gather critical information, dispatch the appropriate resources, and even provide instructions to help you through the first moments of an emergency.

Our fire station phone is not always staffed, and calling the station first can delay the response you may need. While our EMS service is staffed 24/7, our fire station itself is typically staffed during weekday daytime hours only. If crews are already on a call or away from the station, no one may be available to answer the phone.

Calling 911 first ensures help is dispatched immediately.

📞 When You Should Call 911
• Experiencing a new medical issue (chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden speech changes, etc.)
• Involved in or witnessing a traumatic event (car crash, drowning, serious injury, etc.)
• You see or smell smoke or flames
• Your smoke or carbon monoxide detector is sounding

When in doubt, call 911. Even if the situation may seem minor, it’s always better to have emergency responders properly dispatched than risk delaying help when it’s truly needed.

☎️ When You Can Call the Fire Station
• Scheduling a tour of the fire station
• Questions about home safety equipment (smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, etc.)
• Contacting a fire department member about a non-emergency matter

The non-emergency phone number for the Marshall Fire Department is:
📞 (608) 655-3322
