No one gets excited about paying taxes much less paying them at the end of the year. Several years ago we started a program that allowed tax payers to make payments on their upcoming tax bill. We offer two options: mail or drop off your payment OR have your payment automatically taken out of your checking account monthly. Once tax bills are generated we apply the funds held and either mail a paid receipt or mail a bill for the remainder due. Give us a call if you'd like to learn more.

Check your mail!! 📬

If you see information from the Assessor in the next week or so please take a moment to read thru it. There is a process in place to appeal the amounts but you have to initiate that process. Please call if you have questions. If we don't know the answer we can direct you to someone who will.

Per Missouri State Statute 137.180, 274 Impact Notices have been mailed to property owners that have had an increase in ASSESSED VALUE of $300.00 or greater for the 2020 tax year.

Please note: This is not a tax bill nor does it display an actual dollar amount your tax bill will increase. The notice is notifying you of the increase in ASSESSED VALUE only.

Your ASSESSED VALUE is the amount you are required by Missouri State Statute to pay taxes on. Depending on the classification of the property that % differs. Residential is 19%, Agricultural 12% and Commercial 32%. Individuals who have built new construction or have made improvements to the real property will receive an impact if the value has increased more than 3500.00 in assessed value.

If you do not agree with the increase you have the opportunity to appeal with the Saline County Board of Equalization within 15 days of the post marked date on the notice. You must follow the steps listed at the bottom of the notice per Missouri State Statutes.

As always if you have any questions or concerns please contact the Saline County Assessors Office, Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm, 660-886-4380.

The Saline County Courthouse is CLOSED to the public indefinitely. It is imperative that we all practice social distancing at this time. If you can stay home do it. The faster we slow the spread of this virus the sooner we can all return to our 'new normal'. Wash your hands, keep your distance and be kind to one another. Take this time to reconnect in ways you probably hadn't done in a while. Put a puzzle together, write a letter to a friend, read a book. This time in our lives will be one for the history books. Make the most of your time.

Now back to work.....Please call prior to coming to the Courthouse. While most of us are here daily. We have adjusted our hours and may be working from home as work allows.

Governor Parson Protects Missouri’s Most Vulnerable Citizens and Workers Impacted by COVID-19 | Governor Michael L. Parson

Let's recap today's happenings.

• The Courthouse will be closed to the public starting tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24, 2020.
• The Saline County License Bureau has closed until further notice.

The Govenor released the following information regarding extension from the License Bureau:
To alleviate public congestion in local license offices, DOR has implemented automatic extensions for expiring driver licenses and motor vehicle registrations. These extensions are effective immediately:

Vehicle owners with registrations or license plates expiring in March and April have been granted an automatic two-month extension. Owners will be able to continue operating their vehicles on Missouri roadways without penalty until they can apply for renewal.
The time frame in which a vehicle safety and emission inspection is valid for March and April license plate expirations has also been extended an additional 60 days. Applicants for title will not be assessed a late title penalty when visiting a license office, effective immediately; this waiver will continue through April 30, 2020.
Valid Missouri driver licenses, nondriver licenses and noncommercial instruction permits with original expiration dates of March 1, 2020, through April 30, 2020, have been granted an automatic 60-day extension:

The approved extension does not waive the mandatory retesting requirement for persons who have allowed their license to expire for more than 184 days. Also, individuals who were provided notice to complete additional testing as part of a medical review program requirement may be granted an additional 60 days to comply with such requirements.
