Fredonia Township Fire Department calls for service for August, 2026.

12 total calls, 8 of which were medicals. It was a slower month for us, which is good news for the township, as they did not need our services.

Remember we still have smoke detectors to give away if anyone is interested, who lives in our service area. Please contact us via messenger or by calling Chief Phil Damon.

Thank you to those who braved the weather yesterday to attend the Fredonia Township Firefighters Association open house. Community members were educated on the new wording in the upcoming millage request and got ‘hands on’ experience with regard to all of the equipment and vehicles we use. Everyone enjoyed freshly popped popcorn, chocolate chip cookies, tea and lemonade. Thank you to the Fredonia firefighters who participated and helped educate the community as well as all of the surrounding departments who came to help support us.

Just a friendly reminder of the open house on Saturday 8/1/26 from 1-4pm at the Fredonia Township Fire Department, Station 1, 8803 17 Mile Road, Marshall, MI. We look forward to seeing everyone there to discuss the new wording on the millage. Remember, there is no change in the millage amount, just different wording so it can be used for more fire department needs. There will be light refreshments served as well.

Fredonia Township Fire Department to Host Open House Ahead of August 4 Millage Vote

FREDONIA TOWNSHIP, MI — The Fredonia Township Fire Department invites community members to an Open House on Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 1pm - 4pm, at Fire Station 1, located at 8803 17 Mile Road, Marshall, MI.

The event offers residents an opportunity to tour the station, inspect department equipment, meet local firefighters, and ask questions regarding the upcoming fire millage renewal on the August 4 ballot.

“This is a great chance for the community to come and see what equipment we have and how thankful the firefighters are for the support they have given to the department over the years,” said Fire Chief Phil Damon. “With this millage coming up, we wanted to make sure the community has a chance to ask questions, especially since there is updated language on the ballot.”

Understanding the August 4 Ballot Proposal

On Tuesday, August 4, Fredonia Township voters will decide on continuing the existing 0.5-mill property tax rate. While the rate remains the same as the expiring millage, the ballot language has been expanded to better support the department’s evolving needs.

Previous Scope: Restricted funding strictly to department equipment.

Updated Scope: Allows funds to be used for both operational costs and equipment maintenance/purchases.

As safety regulations and equipment standards continue to evolve, department leaders emphasize the importance of flexibility in funding.

“This millage has been very helpful at keeping our department up to date,” Chief Damon added. “Times are changing, and the fire department is regulated more and more to stay safe and compliant with all standards for equipment.”
