FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 14, 2026

Threats to City of Marshall Council Members The Marshall Police Department recently received an anonymous complaint regarding threatening statements allegedly made by a citizen. The complainant reported that the individual threatened the lives of the Marshall City Council members.

Officers contacted the individual, who denied making any threatening remarks. After reviewing all available information,
investigators did not identify sufficient evidence to support criminal charges. This information was shared with the Marshall City Council and staff out of caution and transparency. The original complainant has since been contacted by our department and advised that they do not believe the subject poses a threat.

It is important for our community to understand that any threat, direct or implied, against public officials or members of our community is not taken lightly. The Marshall Police Department investigates every reported threat thoroughly and will pursue prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. Public safety remains our top priority, and we are committed to responding swiftly and appropriately to any situation that may compromise that safety.

Our community, like many across the nation, is experiencing heightened frustration surrounding local issues. We are seeing more hostile or aggressive language used on social media and in public meetings, and less of the civil dialogue that helps communities solve problems and move forward. These changes affect not only the tone of public discussion but also the ability of local leaders to work constructively on behalf of all residents.

As we work through challenging conversations in the months ahead, we ask everyone to be mindful of their words, tone, and behavior. The City of Marshall Council Members and staff all live here in the Marshall Community. We are your neighbors, our kids go to the same schools, we shop at the same stores, and we eat at the same restaurants. We all share the same goal: supporting a community where people treat one another with respect, even when they disagree. Marshall succeeds when we work together, remain civil, and approach difficult issues with understanding and compassion.
